Some pretty amazing scenery in this vid. I get the impression the guy is German and rented a 182 in South Africa. Sounds like fun.

What a cool trip. I wonder what the cost of a 182 rental is in Africa? I have to imagine the insurance cost is pretty substantial, given the places you're likely to land. That 182 appeared to be in remarkably good condition for an African rental.

It takes a big man to cry. But it takes a bigger man to laugh at that man.

@Ranch Pilot

The coast of a C182 rental in SA was arround 150$ (dry) an hour. You have to fly at least two hours a day. The insurance was arround 200$ for each pilot for our trip. I think it depence how many hours you have flown before. If you d' like to get more informations contact Markus. He is the owner of Bushpilot Adventures in Pretoria.

Really amazing trip - looks like ya'all had a great time. Thanks also for the link. Just curious, did you go through the foreign license validation process? It doesn't look to difficult. Other than the SA law exam part, it is about the same as renting a plane about anywhere in the USA.

@cozmicharlie

I' ve got an EASA (further JAR) Licence. So I had to validate my licence to SAA. Like you already said, it's an Air Law Exam and a Checkride (2h) with an a Class II Flight Instuctor. He will check especially your Navigation skills because it's the most import thing down there. I don't know the procedure in the USA because I never rented a plane over there.

@all thanks for the positiv feedback!
