Blessed are the curious, for they shall have great adventures!

Re: air cam

In warm country....GREAT backcountry airplane.

In cool or cold country.....bring your heated long johns.

A fellow in Fairbanks built one, put it on floats and flew it all over northern AK and into some pretty tight lakes.

Re: air cam

Other than price, the only negative comments I've seen on Aircams for backcountry are the tires throw debris into the props.

A couple of owners have had to replace props because of this.

Would a fender of some kind prevent this kind of damage?

Re: air cam

Here's a link to information on the cold weather enclosure being developed for the AirCam. I spoke with the factory a couple months ago and the enclosure will be removable for warm weather flying.

I'm currently building an AirCam. Hope to meet up with all of you someday at one of your fly-in adventures.

JLD: good idea on small aft-facing fenders... easily fabricated.

Re: air cam

Puff the Magic Dragon.... or that is what the owner called it, when I flew it in Florida a few years ago... just came up for sale on Barnstormers. Do a search for Air Cam. Most unusual paint job/graphics and 3D surface work I have ever flown. It was a hoot.
Great back country flyer. One engine operation is just like two... just less fuel burn.
As the others have said... dress warmly.

Flying is dangerous. If you think otherwise, you are new at this sport. Mind the gravity not the gap.

Re: air cam

Wow! I surfed the links from here to happen across a reversing propellers twin 914 turbos air cam video. Wow! Wouldn't that simplify docking or any other water 'taxi' maneuver. For those who are not float fliers, the wind and water currents can be the biggest challenge of the flight when attempting to dock with no unintentional metal or paint modifications to the floats.

I want one (for what that is worth... ....)

It is certainly NOT a traditional looking back country plane, but I think it would work well when you solve the rocks/props issue.

Humor may not make the world go around, but it certainly cheers up the process... :)
With clothing, the opposite of NOMEX is polypro (polypropylene cloth and fleece).
