Reno Air Races

The Reno Air Races are Sept 10 to the 14th this year.

I've flown down to Reno for the races about a dozen times out of the last 15 years or so and might again. I usually stay in Reno and rent a car, but last year flew down commerical with a group from our state pilot's association.

Not sure about this year, my father in law passed a couple of days ago and it will depend on how the ladies are doing. He was a career Marine, wounded on Guadalcanal and was in the first wave at Guam. After that China and then Korea. He was the last of my family to have fought in WWII. The Honor Guard ceremony and internment is tomorrow.

I plan to be there Sat & Sun. The company I work for here in Idaho has a couple of engines we overhauled in the unlimited, so we are headed down to make sure they are running good and probably drink a few beers here and there.

Hey I stayed at the Nugget in 1999 when I flew down in my 180. Nailed $320 off the dollar slots. The guys I went with bought the room, I used the winnings to pay for tie down and fuel. Still had around $150 when I came home  Went down 2002 with the 182 and wasn't so lucky.

Side note, in "99", I was parked in the grassy area by the golf course on rwy 25. Guy three planes down took a golfball through the back window of his 172. Man was he pissed :x I did an extra preflight checking for ball marks on the 180, lucked out and didn't have any. 8)

C ya, have fun, Bub

Be there Sat and Sun. My pals are crewing 3 F1 Racers and another has Dave Morss flying his Subaru Lancair in the sport class. I will be wining and dining in the Checkered Flag club on Saturday and wandering around aimlessly pushing a shopping cart through the pits on Sunday! :)

I looked up the rules once, and if I swap the solid metal prop for a wood or composite one, I can enter the old C-150 in F-1 class. Figure I'll only be 3 laps behind the Cassutes. :P
