Aircraft Scales

Im finishing up an interior project on my buddy's 182 and I'm curious about what others are using for scales to weigh the final product? I used to just borrow them from where are worked but theyre out of business now. I've been shopping around a little and holy crap they're expensive! Have any of you guys purchased a set?

Re: Aircraft Scales

Go find yourself someone that races stock cars...chances are that they'll have a set of electronic portable scales....and usually they're sent in to the mfg. every year or so to calibrate, if they're serious about it. A case of beer usually goes a long ways towards rent for a day.

Re: Aircraft Scales

check your local EAA chapter. A lot of them have scales they will loan out or rent.

Re: Aircraft Scales

Avery tool rents sets of calibrated race car scales for $100 or so. Google them.

Re: Aircraft Scales

I have rented from Avery twice, it's still $100 plus you pay UPS each way. They're in Texas and I was in MA and it was about $70 for the round trip. Well worth it. Real scales and a computer, like a lap top, good instructions. They ship them to you in a large plastic tote sealed with zip ties, you send them back in the same container. They don't list them on their website, you have to call...(817) 439-8400

3 glass top weight watchers scales from Costco for $19 each. Only go to #400 apiece though.

Re: Aircraft Scales

I bought three brand new WS-1000 digital scales with read out from usedscales.com. I think the set ran me under $700 and I have 9 airplanes to weigh so figured it was worth it. I can unload them on eBay or Barnstormers for a large percentage of their value after I am done. So far I have done a Grumman Yankee and a Luscombe 8A. I still have to do a Cessna 140, Comanche 260B, Vans RV-8, Cessna 180J, Bonanza V35B, Vans RV-4 and Nanchang CJ-6A. The heavier aircraft may have to have fuel removed so as not to exceed the 1,000lb limit per scale. They also have 2,000lb per pad scales but the precision goes down to 2lb increments instead of 1lb increments.

Here is a link:

http://www.usedscales.com/ws_and_ps_race_car_scale.htm

I wanted the 1lb precision.
