Airport Crime

I hope we catch the SOB's that did this. A good friend lost his plane last night. A couple of yahoo's removed the cowling from my friend's 150 and tried to use a sawzall to cut the engine mounts and remove the motor mount and all. What the idiots weren't counting on was cutting through a fuel line. The fuel splashed on the coleman lantern they were using and *POOF* no more airplane.

*sigh* I guess it's just a sign of the times we're in.

Was that at the Oakdale airport?

Reading on Svanarts page it was at Oakdale and it was insured. I've never heard of airplanes getting vandalized or anything remotely close to this happening. I wonder what their plans for the engine were? Surely it would be hard to sell one with no history, logs, hours, or anything. I know I'd sure be leary of buying an engine that way.

Wow, unbelievable. The boneheads didn't know much about what they were doing apparently.

Most of this nonsense has disappeared from the Airports in my area since the 9/11 days of increased security.

Guess I should have a better attitude about the Nazi's in white trucks that patrol around here.

Altitude is Time…. Airspeed is Life!

They use aircraft engines in airboats. Probably be a lot of interest in cheap engines.

The people buying engines like that know that they're stolen. Sometime in the late 90s an Aztec at one of the airports around here had one of the engines stolen, cut off at the mount.

Those pictures were emailed and I haven't seen the actual wreckage yet. Avid already answered but yes this occurred at Oakdale and yes the plane was fully insured. (never skimp on insurance)

This is actually the second incident we've had at Oakdale, about a month ago we had some locks cut off hangars and a bunch of tools stolen. The idiots damaged the airplanes in those hangars while trying to drag the toolboxes out.

I'm all for hiring some good ol' boys from Idaho to patrol our airport for a few weeks so they can ventilate these SOB's.

Why outsource? You got to have a few good ole boys in CA that can STB. you can't have given up all your rights to the local gun nazis.

STB = shoot the bastards

As a former CA deputy sheriff involved in several shootings over the years, I can't begin to tell you how much you wouldn't want to shoot anyone in California nowdays, no matter how justified. Just ask that about to be hosed BART cop who recently shot that poor, underprivileged, "unarmed" gang banger... Oops, I mean youth. His life will be an absolute nightmare for years to come.

More Crime

While not as extreme or costly as the lost 150, we have recently had some fuel stolen out of our club's aircraft. After a check of the tach against the logs and the fuel pumped with the receipts from the FBO, we have had to conclude that someone siphoned it out of the tanks. The other tale tale sign was the amount: 14.8 gallons. Roughly three 5 gallon jugs. Our hunch is that with it being snowmobiling season, someone is looking for free fuel for their machines. I know that in winters past people on the field have had problems with this as well. The airport is gated (not that that means someone couldn't get through) but there is one walk through gate with no gate that I wish they would put a locking gate on. I subscribe to the STB too. I'd like to catch them in the act.

I cannot tell you how "right on" Gump is with this reply. Even a cop can't get away with shooting someone in California. Part of the reason I was looking for hired guns.

That does REALLY suck.. What I am having a hard time believing is they used a Coleman Lantern for lighting,,,, With all the flashlights that exist and the fact it takes a bit of work to actually lite off a lantern it is hard to understand their thought process. Sorry for sounding pessimistic but my first thought was insurance fraud by someone who is needing money badly. In the big city we call this "Jewish Lightening"

Well and his wife was demanding he sell the airplane and he has been dragging his feet on the sale. My first thought was that SHE did it.

Whoa, better start thinking about that with the way things are going around here. It's getting bad even in the good areas, people are starting to notice here. So far only my girlfriend steals my stuff though......now were are the tweezers?

Ok, so there were three Jewish guys sitting on the beach in a retirement community in Florida, discussing their retirements.

The first one says, "I had a factory on the east coast, business was ok, but one day there was a big electrical fire, everything destroyed. I was getting older, I didn't have anyone to pass the business on to, so I decided to take the insurance money to retire."

The second one says, "I had a big insurance company up in Michigan. Things were so-so. During a thunderstorm, the building was struck by lightning, it was a total loss. Being in my mid 60s, and my kids all having careers of their own outside insurance, I decided to retire with the insurance money."

The third one says, "I had a restaurant, business was a little slow. Last spring there was a big flood in the town, and the restaurant was totaled. I decided that I was sick of running a restaurant, took the insurance money and retired down here in Florida."

The first two guys look at the third and say "How did you make a flood happen?!"
