AirportMap App...

Don't know if this one has been brought up before, but I found kind of a cool app, and it's FREE... "AirportMap"

I wasn't expecting much when I downloaded it to my iPad, but I was pleasantly surprised.

A map of your vicinity comes up, with red pins marking airports, helipads etc around your location. Touching one of the pins brings up the name of the field and the distance from you. Touch the arrow and it brings up the airnav.com listing for the field.

Around my area (San Antonio) I thought I knew most all of the fields. But a fair number came up with this app I'd never heard of before, and don't show up on sectionals, my 496 or anything else I have.

Will be really nice to play with when I'm traveling around unfamiliar territory...

Seems to open up Airnav on mine. Do you see any other function other than that?

After you've touched a 'pin' on the map and the box opens up, touching the arrow in the box does indeed open up Airnav. The thing I like is that it shows fields I've never known about. When Airnav opens it many times has phone numbers for the private fields. All the field info is there, plus the phone number so I would be able to call to try to get landing permission if the field looks interesting...

Certainly not a breakthru app, but interesting to me none the less.
