Now I really don't like golf, but my wife loves it. Happy wife, happy life. I told her we'd throw our bags in the wagon and play a few courses. She seems more interested about the trip now.

I'm hoping to tee up a ball in Barrow and hit it into the Arctic Ocean. Is it good form to shoot your golf ball in Alaska if you get pissed? ;-)

There's a course on Ft Wainwright. I'm no golfer either so I can't say if it's any good or not. Not sure if you need a DOD ID to play but if you do I have some buddies that are still up there I might could ask to sponsor you and your wife for a round.

Chena Bend course on Fort Wainwright is a very nice layout. You don't need a DOD ID. Usually take until late June to be in great shape. If you were to make it this far North, give me a PM. There are other activities I can hook you up with on post.

Thanks guys. We will definitely stop by. North Star Golf Club looks good as well. Playing this and Chena Bend will gets us the Northern most USGA course and the Northern most U.S. Military course. Good bragging rights for my wife among her friends.

Chena Bend: The course was rated by “Golf Digest” as Alaska’s best for 1999, 2007, 2008 and 2009 and received a four-star rating in the 2008 and 2009 edition of Golf Digest’s “Best Places to Play.”

Kenai

If any of you fellows make it up here and stop by Kenai let me know. I have a river boat with lots of open seats can take you and show you all around.

There's always the Bering Sea Ice Classic in Nome. It's nine holes out on the ice if I remember right. I still have a couple of the orange golf balls floating around somewhere.

June is a good month and the long days give you plenty of options when avoiding weather.

Too bad about not camping because you just wiped out about 90% of the state. If you can do cabins, you open up a bit more.

Spend a few days or more based out of McCarthy. Then take day trips and go sight seeing and be back at the lodge at night.

Do the same in Bettles.

Consider a hotel in Soldotna. Easy day trips to Harding Ice Field, Lake Clark, Homer, Seward, Prince William Sound. And there are 3 golf courses nearby. There is also a course in Homer owned by a friend of mine.

There are some interesting things to see out of Nome and Kotzebue, but I would make sure you do Brooks, Wrangells, and South Central first.
