"Alaska's Bush Pilots...The Real Deal" HD DVD

I want to thank everyone for being at this great site! I am a newbee and find all that you have written to be extremely interesting and educational. I am the executive producer of a just-released HD DVD film, "Alaska's Bush Pilots...The Real Deal" available at http://www.alaskasbushpilots.com

Not trying to sell you anything but it made sense to me that many of you have always dreamed of flying the wilderness in Alaska and this documentary puts you in the "seat". Two years in the production, five months in edit. Just released Sat. thanks for looking and from time to time, I'll post some of my national articles on this site.

Re: "Alaska's Bush Pilots...The Real Deal" HD DVD

Just bought it!

The trailer looks cool and I've seen that little green Stinson in a magazine article somewheres. Thanks for the heads up.

BTW, I didn't opt for the autographed copy from Olterdorph or whoever. $3 is $3 more than I would pay for any autograph.......short of Led Zeppelin

Looks like a great video, so I ordered one! Can't wait to see it! Maybe we will show it at the BCP Fly-In at 50PA this June with the cold beer and popcorn of course!

You aren't? Then why is your first post a plug for your $20 DVD? :)

Plugging your wares is fine, and I'm glad you're out there making this kind of stuff. Please remember that the price of advertising is continued personal activity in the forum, as is described in the Newbie Guide.

Thanks. Looks like a fun film. We can't have enough of this stuff.

Re: "Alaska's Bush Pilots...The Real Deal" HD DVD

You guys are good and know your stuff, that little green Stinson is indeed Lake Clark Air's 10-A plane. Glen was flying that bird and as you say, they are the real deal. He and his father Glen Sr. are two of the best Alaskan pilots in the state (we all have our favorites). Good people and a good facility. I did a number of national stories on it and a few others. If you're interested, you can see them on my site; www.joltersdorf.com Just click on the "magazines" tab. Nothing is for sale on that site, its just the published aviation articles I've done over the past years and a few others to boot if you like the Australian Outback, remote beaches, 'roos & Aborgines...amongst a few other interests. Thanks guys, you seem to be a great group and I am glad I joined!

BTW...Six Two Leemer, I don't charge a penny for my autograph, that charge is to offset the time it takes to unwrap the package, pull out the DVD, look up who it is that wants it signed, what they want signed, sign it properly, rewrap the package and then take it to the post office. Your time, like mine is valuable and hence that is what the small fee is for. Simply said, I am flattered for them to ask me for a signature, that's all. It just covers my time. Multiply that by a hundred and you get the idea respectfully said. BTW..I just got Peter Frampton's autograph. Maybe LZ's is next? LOL.

HIgh Risk,

755 was an easy guess, I live on Lake Clark and have been in the "green weenie". I'll most likely order a DVD just to loan it out so other folks can see the back yard and around the block by a really good photographer and editor.

You mention Glen and Glen Senior, and I share your praise of them as pilots and people. You missed another really good Alsworth if Leon is not in the DVD, and more good folks and pilots if you did not get Mark and Jeremy in the "Real Deal". You also probably know as well as I that the entire town and region is full of good folks and real bush pilots.

Perhaps we passed a few times while you were shooting. I have a little red and white cub ( usually on floats) up closer to the pass near Portage Creek.

Re: "Alaska's Bush Pilots...The Real Deal" HD DVD

GR,

We could have spent the rest of lives out there filming and not got everyone that should have been in it but we had to keep it to one hour long. If not, it would be the TV series for the next 20 years! LOL. I would have loved to get Mark in there as well as he and I flew together when shooting the "Green Weenie" for a couple of stories that I was writing for some aviation magazines. I know one of them even ended up on the cover of Pacific Flyer Magazine in Australia. Funny thing, I was headed deep into the Outback when I stopped in Sydney. I went to the the local magazine rack and I about fell over. There was the "Green Weenie" and Glen Jr. flying it! Made me proud that I knew the man and that I had shot/written the story and there it was, halfway around the world! Alaskan's, you can't help but love 'em!

Yeah its a ways away. Perhaps they are sending it via dogsled or bobsled and stopped to watch the Olympics

I just received some motorcycle parts from Perth Australia in 4 days...DHL. Cool.

Re: "Alaska's Bush Pilots...The Real Deal" HD DVD

Hey, I got my signed DVD yesterday with a nice note apologizing for the delay in shipping. Seems that the company that was duplicating the DVD was a bit tardy. I have been in business enough years to understand that you not only have to do your job but everybody else's to!

Anyway, it seems they are nice folks to deal with and I am looking forward to watching the show tonight. It might be a candidate for the the east coast BCP Fly-In Saturday night movies showing pilots doing things that I would be afraid of trying!

Re: "Alaska's Bush Pilots...The Real Deal" HD DVD

I got my video this week also. I was kind of dissapointed. It has some nice scenery shots but it's really not "The Real Deal" I wanted to see some day to day AK pilot ops not endless shots of a Turbine Otter and a Stinson. One guy talks about how critical the weather is to Visual Flight REFERENCE ops....uh ....ya... There's only one pilot interview and all he talks about is making good decisions....Didn't see any STOL or off airport stuff that got me excited. Overall a nicely done video to add to the collection but it caters more to the crowd that has no aviation background or clue what goes on up in AK vs a crowd like us.

Avidflyer, try Big Rocks, Long Props and Supercubs II Hardcore for that stuff - way more fun than watching scenery go by.

Re: "Alaska's Bush Pilots...The Real Deal" HD DVD

I don't know guys... but it seemed like another amateur bush pilot video, at least from the sample. The overvolume guitar playing just doesn't make it edge of the seat viewing. Try turning down the volume and see what I mean. The close ups of the pencil drawing a line down a sectional and an E6B is not what I remember of bush flying. We actually hid the sectionals... lest a customer see it and get nervous since you appeared to need a map to find the village. After watching Chris Wood's film on the P-51 (Grey Eagles I think) I am spoiled by true professional air to air video and excellent editing. Maybe I am way off... but the first 25 seconds of the trailer just to tell me who produced it. Anyway, best of luck making money off the hobby. I will shut up now. Fly safe, whether it be "Outside" or Outback.

Flying is dangerous. If you think otherwise, you are new at this sport. Mind the gravity not the gap.

Re: "Alaska's Bush Pilots...The Real Deal" HD DVD

Well all I can say is if some one wants my copy call me and I will save you some money, "the real deal" is a little off. This is more like a nat geo "Alaska" doc. Too many repete shots and not enuff of what I thought would be in there from the trailer. It was good to see the Allsworth family and others that are "The Real Deal"

...maybe you need to get an Ohio Bush Planes video for only $15, including S&H ($13 + $2 S&H)?? There is over 90 minutes of Greg Swingle "action".
