Alaska Summer Fly-In

Hey guys, I'm back after a bit of a hiatus. The Peril now has a new engine and the world has begun to turn in her accustomed direction again. Thanks to a number of key individual especially our own UP-M5. 8)

Thought I'd throw out a bone for all of those in our neck of the woods. The first week of August, there is a movement a foot to have what is being billed as the first annual Palmer Air Fair and Rendezvous. This is to be a Valdez style fly in with the appropriate short Take Off & Landing with a twist. The A/C will be flown at weight! There are to be a several events, Vendors, static displays, A/C for sale and a swap meet. Don't worry, food too!

This event is for the Aviation community and Hunting crowd both. There will workshops for all. Backcountry demo's and workshops for the care & feeding of the A/C during one of the more challenging times of the year, Hunting season. Search & Rescue, Air Gaurd, Taxidermists, Lodges and others. The planning is fairly far along but there is one major hurdle for them to get over, the blessing of the City Council. The Airport Manager is a very strong advocate. :!:

The general public is welcome and there is no admission. Free! (Best word in the English language!) There will most likely be a fee to compete, we'll see.
As soon as they get their web site up and running, I'll post a link and updats.

This'll be a lot of fun, this'll be the third event of the year and only the second flying event. Valdez in May, Trade Show in May and then this. Yahoo!

Now this is a function in a location and a time of year that could work for us. What is the parking situation/proximity for a plane on straight floats??

Accommodations/camping opportunities?

Man, the first week of August is getting pretty close to the opening of sheep season, and that's when many of the accidents occur. Hopefully, this is being planned for EARLY in the first week of August, otherwise, you'll miss a lot of the hunters, who will already be headed for the mountains, or scouting.

Sounds like a great idea, though. I hope it works out for you.

That's the very reason they're doing it for that time of year, to help curtail some of those "There I was" stories. They've targeted the first weekend of August.

Sorry Ford, there's no float access but There's enough lakes nearby that I'm sure there's a way to arrange something. Lots of camping space available though.

Thanks Zane, looks like I missed a bit of excitment!? Maybe missed is the wrong word... Good to be back though.
I'll try to get some pictures up in the near future. Been down all summer, missed the lousey weather and brutally expensive fuel prices though. Filled the time with lots of fishing and hunting.

I'm game. Sounds fun. I'm going to try and get to the Valdez fly in as well.

First week of August is time for reds in Lake Clark.

I'd like to make it and meet some of the valley folks, but the reds will be in Lake Clark.

Hmmm, August = reds = fog and mist?

Was that you flying around Palmer today. Looked like you, but noticed that you are not on your skis yet. Pretty day for flying. I'm getting ready to head out to the Hangar to get my Husky out for a little skiing on this fresh powder.

Hmmm, guilty. Tough to sneak around sometimes. Managed 1.7 today and wanted to do a lot more than that.
Had to stop in at Bobbies for some oil and mic. parts. First oil change on the Peril and as beautiful as it was, I just couldn't see driving there! Besides, you have to warm the oil right? Took the trusty Entitelment Dog with me, she's been wanting to go for a long while.
Might go to skis tomorrow, I've been wanting to get a little huntng in and we're due for more snow this week. Lots of tracks in the back of Knik I see.
Hope you got out today, sometimes I think we are only allowed so many days like this. These are the days that remind us why we are living here!

You looked good from where I stood. I went out flying today as well. The snow at Palmer is a bit thin, but Lake Lucille, Willow and all of the lakes in between have a lot of ski tracks. Didn't get up to Lake George, but I'm sure it is great up there. Sure feels like spring out there -- 5F and a bright sunny day.

My wife just came home and said she saw a yellow Maule doing a lot of T&Gs out at Palmer. I got out of there after just one ski landing.
