Alaska to Lower 48, Seeking Copilot

Hi everybody,

I know this is short notice; I thought I posted this a while ago, but I guess I screwed it up somehow.

I work summers in Alaska, flying for an air taxi here. My season is almost over, and it's time to start planning my trip back south. I'd like to find someone who wants to do the trip with me, to help defray costs. This will be in my Maule M-6-235.

I'm hoping to find someone who has always wanted to do the flight to or from Alaska, but hasn't, because they don't have an airplane, or are intimidated by the planning/weather/terrain/logistics/border crossings, etc. I can provide the plane, the experience (done it over a dozen times now, by all different routes), the planning and the decision making, etc. The other person can provide funds for fuel. I'm happy to let them do as much of the flying as they like, as long as they aren't scaring me. I will probably want to do the landings, depending on experience and comfort level.

I plan to leave the Anchorage area around September 16 or 17th, though I do have a little flexibility there.

They would need to get themselves to Anchorage, and home from Denver, Colorado, unless there is somewhere better I can drop them along the way..

Here is a link to a forum conversation about this on the Maule site:

Here is a link to a slide show, done by the guy who flew up with me in the spring: http://s1347.photobucket.com/user/tomth ... a%20flight

So, do any of you know someone who might like to do this? Best thing is to contact me directly via email at [email protected], as I don't get a chance to look at this site often.

I can vouch for Andy. Good guy, good pilot, good ship. His commute could be somebody else's vacation of a lifetime. 8)

Re: Alaska to Lower 48, Seeking Copilot

Hi everybody,

I'm once again doing my seasonal commute back to the lower 48, and wondering if anyone wants to join me, in exchange for contributing finds for fuel. Please see my earlier post (above) on this for details, as well as the thread on the Maule forum at:

http://maulepilots.org/forums/viewtopic ... 7158#47158

Basically, for folks who have always wanted to a flight to Alaska but haven't for whatever reason, this is an opportunity to do your trip of a lifetime (albeit in reverse) without having to have the airplane or do any of the planning or decision-making, or deal with any of the logistic. You'll also get to learn how it's all done, in case you want to do it again on your own.

I hope to leave Anchorage on or about October 2nd, and will be ending up in Spokane, Washington, which has good airline connections to get you back home.

Rough guess on expected costs (not including your food, hotel, and airline) is $800.

Best way to reach me to discuss is direct email, at: [email protected]

Thanks!

Any estimate on planned trip duration? (obviously approximate due to weather and such)

With decent weather, two days from Anchorage to Spokane. Asa, I see you're from Boulder. That's actually my winter base, though I won't be going there right away; I will be stopping in Spokane for a while.

Just a bump to see if anyone is interested last-minute. I plan on leaving Anchorage on Monday. If you'd like to join me, give me a call at 720-320-8265.

Wish I could swing this, it would be a fun trip. When are you heading back to AK, and will you be going there from Denver directly? I'd be very interested in sitting right seat for the return trip.
