Looks like Don is getting his time in the spotlight too, nice guy. Looks like a fun show to watch.

Don showed me some parts of this video when I was up there this past June. He's referred to as the "Professor". The old truck that he's driving up to the plane at the airport used to belong to Don Sheldon.

I know Don from his recent past when he was flying for "presidential Airways" which used to be the aviation division for "Blackwater" (now xi, pronounced zee ??) located here in NE NC where I live.

The Natgeo stuff seems to have less made up drama than the Discovery Channel stuff.

Re: Alaska wingmen....

Loved all 3 episodes. Good flying and filming...some narrator-induced drama but not excessive. Now I want a Pacer!! :P

I really liked my wife reaction when they landed on the road, she was shocked.

I watched and DVR'd the whole 3+ hours / highlight for me was Pacer landing on highway behind truck !I'm sure truck driver was wondering what the heck is going on. Apparently it's legal to land on highways in Alaska ---wish they would make that ok in lower 48.

Re: Alaska wingmen....

My wife even watched a bit with me and it was funny because she was noticing how they would preflight an Otter, land in a Beaver, load up an Otter, and take off in a Beaver...all the while the turbine engines sounded like pistons. It was minor though, great shows. I stayed up late last night and watched the 3 that were on. Was good seeing Don and Paul on there, both great guys!

Re: Alaska wingmen....

Nice scenery but....

Kinda hard watching a 30,000 hour pilot in a turbine Otter with bleed heat "panic" with a trace of ice. Musta been the sound of a round engine coming out the exhaust stack that confused him.

I think showing what the day in, day out life of a working pilot up there is really like would be pretty boring to the masses.

Yeah, and the terrain "Alerts" going off on the 530 made for good "in the clouds" TV drama. I'm sure there are very few minutes in Alaska when the terrain alert is actually quiet. I did have an apprecation though for the weather they fly in up there, day in day out. Waiting for CAVU could be months!

It was a nice diversion from otherwise brain-dead TV for me.

Re: Alaska wingmen....

Watching the first episode... This is good stuff! Haha. Just a little drama, but they have to entertain everyone a little I guess.
