Alaskan Bushwheel Flyin at Sullivan Lake Washington. Report

On August 16-19 2007 jmtgt and Hottshot organized a fly in at Sullivan Lake in Washington. It was a great time! I could only stay Thursday and Friday because of work.

What made this fly in so special was Bill and Diana from Alaskan Bushwheel drove eight hours towing a big trailer to treat all of us like family. They treated us to breakfasts and dinners. Ribs and steaks and all the side stuff to. Pancakes and bacon and all sorts of good breakfast stuff.

Everyone from the Alaskan Bushwheel company truly are wounder full folks. Thank you Bill, Diana, Wup, and Nicole.

If I can get through the Columbia River Gorge to the east side of the Cascade Mountain Range I know I can get to Sullivan. I can see the blue, got it made now!

The Bushwheel Bar-B-Q. Sometimes it won't all fit in the airplane.

We had friends come from Texas, California, Oregon, and Washington. This was as of Friday when I had to go.

It was HOT! so we cooled off in the lake.

Randy made us Margaritas in the shade under the wing of his BIG! bird. It is a Dornier. Sorry Bruce for cutting you in half.

Chris and Katherine came from Texas to fly formation with jmtgt and me.

Zane, when I left on Friday at noon there had been close to 18 folks and 12 planes. There was people and planes coming and going. More were expected Friday into Saturday. Thursday AM a TFR popped up 5 miles to the north. That could have stopped some but really it was nice most of the time. Cheers...Rob

John, I assume your home now. I hope everybody got out of there before the rain started. My trip back was a little interesting. My 430 quit. The 250 worked and Anywhere Map worked.

I tried rebooting the 430 like 6 times. I finally said F it. Half way home it started working again. The 430 com was fine just the GPS didn't work. Probably a loose antenna wire. Good news for the AP and electronic shop.

It's getting the WAAS upgrade so that will probably fix the problem. It was much fun to hang with y'all again.

Thanks for the instruction. I'll put it to good use. See ya next month when I come to the Reno air races. I'll buy us dinner if you have time. I think I was a little light on the gas money. Cheers...Rob

Homeward bound.

I was working on my airplane in the hangar when the crank of a Continental came over the airport. 30 seconds later I see Chris turning final in his 180. I went up to give he and Katherine a hat and see how it was. He fueled up and hauled ass wanting to take advantage of the tailwind. Good thing too as the T-storms are just kicking up and starting to spit on the Bennett hills to the N.W.
Glad you all had fun. I did at least work so I wasn't just blowing you guys off for no reason. Where was Superdave?

If you're not scarin' yourself, you're not scarin' the crowd!

We're passing through Ft. Collins, Co...waiting on a storm to pass. What a great trip! Thanks to Bill, Diana and the Bushwheel crew. We counted 30 airplanes total throughout the weekend...some locals came just to see what all the commotion was about. Post more later.

Thanks George for the hospitality in Gooding. See ya at the next one.

One of those Dorniers came into Grants Pass for fuel one day...what a cool machine... Everyone was scratching their head trying to identify it. This one was painted flat black and looked like it could have easily been in an Indiana Jones movies, with a swastika on the tail, save for the anachronism of it. It looks like the bastard child of a Helio Courier and a Storch.
