Alberta, BC, SE Alaska starting Aug 18

I'm planning a trip from Colorado to Montana, Alberta, BC and into SE Alaska starting about Aug 18th. Route likely Denver--Columbus MT--Springbank, Alberta (customs)--Carcross, BC--Skagway, AK (customs)--Haines, AK (meet forum member there)--backcountry strips around Yakutat--Wrangell St. Elias area. No specific timeframe but want to camp & enjoy the backcountry and scenic spots appropriate for super cubs.

Suggestions on where to stop--out of the way gravel bars/strips/et cetera much appreciated.

Anyone interested in joining up for some of this adventure?

Hi,

If you are traveling the Alaska highway route, feel free to stop in at Gordon's Field (CBL3) just west of Fort Nelson. You are welcome to camp under the wing and there is usually a ride to town available if needed.

Carcross, Yukon is a great little goverment maintained strip. We have a lot there as well. Certainly encourage anyone traveling through to check it out if needing a place to camp. Right beside the lake and walking distance to the community of Carcross. Much quieter then camping at Whitehorse.

Enjoy your journey.

Ted,

We're in Atlin, BC - actually a few miles S of town. Nice maintained strip here and we have a guest cabin. Give a heads up via email or pm (since we don't have a phone) if you want to stop here. We're here until end of August.

Thanks to everyone for input. A special hearty "Thank You" to Greg and David for their welcoming notes. I looked on Google Earth S of Atlin. Found perhaps what is a strip a good bit S of town. I've been into Atlin several times in my Murphy Moose. Flew over the headswaters of the Yukon at the SE end of Atlin Lake once. Good fuel stop (and custom's of course); having the main strip several miles outside of town with no local water source was a bit of a challenge (walked over to someone's trailer at the opposite end of the strip to get water to cook dinner once too).

Weather dictates how we head back (highway through Grand Prarie, Trench, Coast).

As always, I have a hangar and spare bedrooms in the Denver area for anyone passing through Colorado. I'm always happy to show folks the sights of Colorado--stop by anytime! Ted 303-378-4987
