Also....Looking for rides in Alaska

I'm up in Anchorage for 2 weeks for work and was wondering if there was any BCPs willing to let me tag along for some flying? I'm about a 250-300hr pilot with a majority of that time being tailwheel time. I own a 170 back home in Michigan and have always dreamed of flying up here.

Thanks for all the great content, I've learned so much in the last few years on here and thank all of you for sharing your stories and knowledge.

I know this might not be the most optimal time of the year to fly in Alaska, but figured I'd ask....

Thanks again,

Jon - Wolverine170

Hey Jon,

Welcome to the site. I can't help you out as I just went in the shop for annual. If nothing else pans out, consider driving north to Talkeetna and hiring a scenic flight around the high mountains. We're expecting fresh snow in the next few days and if things clear while you're around it could be spectacular.

Cheers,

-DP

Re: Also....Looking for rides in Alaska

I want to thank everyone who extended an offer this last week. I have been up here for the last 2 weeks to work on the wind turbines out on Fire Island and unfortunately due to weather and some stubborn turbine issues, was stuck on the island all week up until today...That's the way turbine god's work some time....

I fly out early this Tuesday(11/21) so I'm not sure i'll have the opportunity to take some of you on your offer this time around. I'll reach out again when I get back up here and hopefully the offer will still stand...

I just want to take a second to thank Andrew(Tradecraft) for taking me out last weekend for some flying. It was a dream come true for me and really set the hook in deep to want to move up here one day, now comes the difficult task of convincing my wife...

Again Thank you for all the offers, I wish I could take all of you up on your offers and pay for all the days avgas.....

Had a great time last weekend, you'll have to come back when there's more landable terrain. Post up some pictures when you get a chance!

Jon,

Where in Michigan do you live? Where do you keep your airplane?

Kurt,

I live in the Alma/Saint Louis area. I keep my plane at Gratiot Community Airport(KAMN) in Alma.

All,

I have added a photo album in the user photos section of flying with Andrew(TradeCraft) last weekend.

Re: Also....Looking for rides in Alaska

I just found this thread while looking to buy someone some fuel this coming week. I get into Anchorage tomorrow night and fly the jet back out on Wednesday. I bought my Maule M-5 at Lake Hood and flew it back home to CT at the end of Sept. Unfortunately I didn't get to spend nearly enough time flying around the area especially after seeing what we did on the flight out. So I'm planning to either do some flightseeing commercially or if anyone is looking for an excuse to fly I'll buy the fuel and food. That's if I don't spend all my money on extended gear, big tires and skis for the M-5 first.

I might be down to do a little flying Monday or Tuesday afternoon. I could meet you in Birchwood. I have a 170.

Oh that could be really dangerous so close to Alaska Bushwheels/Airframes Alaska. I'll touch base with you once I'm in town. Thanks for reaching out.

Around all week and just got the plane thawed out. Live in Anchorage and based out of Lake Hood. Give me a shout.

Re: Also....Looking for rides in Alaska

It was pretty foggy the last few days, but today cleared up nice.
Shoot me a PM.
I'm always game to take a fellow BCP exploring.

Re: Also....Looking for rides in Alaska

TradeCraft took me up in his plane today so we made great use of the beautiful visibility and light winds today. Was a bit chilly but well worth losing a few fingers and toes for the views. What an amazing area to fly in. Thanks for the additional offer Tin Can. I’ll be back again soon and may take you up on that then. I’ll get some pictures up later after my camera battery thaws out and is recharged.

Re: Also....Looking for rides in Alaska

I just saw this thread. For any future peeps from BCP in the area during thawed out months: I try to fly 4-5 times per week if not daily when it's warm and not crappy weather. I fly a 170A out of Wasilla and trying to build hours and certifications. I have my commercial, working on my CFI and then racing to 1500. Shoot me a message and I'll take you up any time.
