Alternator options for 170b Del Air STC
Have you modified your aircraft? STC? STOL Kit? Major rebuild from just a data plate?
For those of you running the Del Air STC 0-360 in there 170s, what alternators are you using? STC calls out the ALY-8420 or ES4005, both 60A. Anyone know of a basis to run a PlanePwr AL12-70?

Nate, an alternator is an airframe part. Roman’s asking the question because the 170B isn’t on the PP AML and the STC only calls out for the two alternators he listed.
You’re running that old Delco right?

I'm curious why you want an alternative to the specified alternator.
Is it out of production?
Are the ones you mentioned less expensive?
Or do you want 70A capacity instead of 60A?
What with solid state avionics & LED lighting,
I'd be inclined to go with a smaller & lighter alternator instead of larger.
