JG, I might go see Amelia tomorrow night with some airplane buddies. Will report back. Can't wait to see Hillary Swank's teeth in stunning HD on a huge screen.

Only met Zane once in person. As I recall, his smile will not make the cover of Orthodontics Monthly. :P :P :P
I did see her in a movie the other night with braces. Most awsom.

Re: Amelia

Yeah I've got teeth that would make a meth-head cringe.

I think Hillary is beautiful. That grill is something to behold, all horse references aside.

It's OK if you admit it Zane.... Blame it on one too many whacks on the head from your motocross days.

Well, obviously it's not ideal, but a guy could do worse if he really, really tried. ;)

Shivers.

Re: Amelia

Let's see, she worth how much? Heck, I'd date her, no matter what her teeth look like. They don't look too bad to me. But, mines not that great niether (thanks to a baseball accident and then a fear of dentist's for 10+ years).

Re: Amelia

Reporting back....

It had excellent cinematography, the flying scenes and the aircraft were INCREDIBLE.

It had excellent acting. HIllary Swank pulled off a good Amelia with the accent. Ewan McGregor and Richard Gere were good as always.

The screenplay sucked, in my opinion. I felt the story could have done a better job of endearing you to Amelia, bringing you inside her obsession with more than just "I love flying" and smiles. It just felt very linear and monotone to me, with very little done to enrich the story or engage the mind of the viewer other than glue the flying scenes together with love problems. Her commitment issues were about as deep as it got. I started to get the impression that she was a complex character in real life, but the movie didn't follow though on that. I guess that's the caveat of adapting a true story.

Some of the flying stuff was geared toward the layperson. Doors opening in flight and almost falling out? Come on! I felt it pandered to many uneducated fears of flying rather than truly interesting challenges.

As Kelly said after the movie: "If you want the actual details you're wondering about, try to find the PBS American Experience episode on Amelia Earhart."

Thanks Zane. I'll save the 120 mile drive and wait for TV. John

Re: Amelia

The American Experience episode was on locally here last night. I've read a lot about AE, but this was still a very good show. It had some top-notch people talking about her and her level of experience. I got the feeling that she was in over her head with the around-the-world flight, and that she did not trust her navigator. I have always admired her for her adventurous spirit and courage, and felt closer to her because she was also very human. Not many of us who have been flying for awhile are incident/accident-free.

Re: Amelia

I am still back in Illinois trying to get the crop harvested and since we were rained out of the field again, the pickup headed to the "big city" to grab some supplies. I decided to kill the afternoon at a movie and end up seeing Amelia. It was interesting, but did not hold my attention at all times (it took a while to quit fixating on her teeth, after reading the previous posts on this thread). Yes, the door scene was hokey, I have "a friend" who has left the passenger door unlocked before, and by sheer luck, nobody has be sucked out yet. I would not drive 100 or even 40 miles to see it, wait for the DVD or when it comes on the dish. 2 1/2 stars out of 5. Steve

Re: Amelia

Saw it last night and I'm still wondering why it was soooo boooorrring. Like Z said, great acting, great flying shots, but other than that, nothing to keep you awake. Wait for the DVD - my .02
