Amphib crash in Seattle

A Cessna 206 amphibian landed and flipped over in Seattle. Pilot Roger Collins was the only occupant and suffered a bump on his head. Photos in the newspaper show the landing gear extended.

Re: Amphib crash in Seattle

Looks only partially extended in that photo, but hard to tell.

But, it's a "private thing".

Till the FAA shows up, at least.

Why were they extended at all?

I'm curious if this was a planned landing, precautionary, forced, or what. Seems like it might be pretty rough water at Shilshole, there's a marina but no room to land inside the breakwater as far as I know. So youd be out in the open sound.

Being pretty smart. Talking to the press or law enforcement immediately after an accident is probably NOT a good idea, it all becomes part of the record and can be used in FAA NTSB investigations. Keep your mouth shut and get legal advise before commenting is the best plan.

There is room to land behind the breakwater....not lots but better than the sound. Also probably a better choice than trying to stretch it along the ship canal with all the crossing wires, bridges, and boat traffic.

Not an excellent outcome, but could have been far worse.

Re: Amphib crash in Seattle

If you have never had an emergency, maybe you need to ask these questions? [-X This guy may be very understated! Could be his electrical problem was huge amounts of smoke billowing our from under the panel??? As he stated he didn't think he could make back to the airport! Sounds like whatever it was he needed to be down NOW! =D> Good decision, =D> if he new the gear was down and had an emergancy, =D> He walked away! =D> Good landing =D> , Maybe the rough water helped lessen the impact when it flipped?? =D> =D> =D> =D>
As stated before Patience.
