Thanks for the informative post.
Rather than start a new thread I thought I'd post the following photo and description of a problem I just encountered to see if you or any other amphib guys might have some ideas.

These are Aerocet 3400's. The gear operated normally, with four brown indicating gear down and locked (rather than green on this indicator: "Four in the brown, gear is down, landing on the ground!"). I landed uneventfully at my home airport (KMEV, Minden, NV), pushed the plane back into the hangar using the towbar and a four wheel ATV like I always do. The next day, I went out to the hangar and found the right main gear had folded.
Neither Aerocet engineers nor my local A&P can explain it. An inspection reveals nothing jammed in there. The hydraulic system checks out OK. They can find nothing to indicate anything is not airworthy, yet I'm a bit concerned. Either it never really went over center, or it did and somehow "popped" out of the over center position. There are springs that hold it in the over center position, like most retracts, so that even when the hydraulic pressure bleeds down over time, it can sit on the main gear indefinitely.
Any ideas? I've cycled the gear on blocks in the hangar and am planning on going out to tomorrow and doing a few landings. I hate to just chalk it up to a one time anomaly without understanding the why and how.
