Gooday all, I am finally visiting The States. Here is the plan; I arrive with my partner in LA on the 15th of June and leave LA on the 15th of July. We are hiring a motorhome and driving from LA to Portland and back, up via Yosemite and back via the coast (suggestions welcome). I have friends in Portland and my son has married an American lass and is living in Eugene. So, it is big road trip plus time in Oregon and Eugene.

I would love to do some flying while visiting your country but lack of time prevents me converting my Aussie license and hiring an aeroplane (airplane?)

There is two of us, we would love to see some back country, perhaps park the motorhome on an airfield for a night and see how its all done "over there". We welcome any suggestions from sharing a ride right through to an overnight charter with a commercial organization. We are more than happy to pay and crave an American flying experience. I would love to have "a go" but realize I will not be pilot in command or even close.

Here in Aus, we own a Scout, I work as a pilot (instructing) and have around 7000 TT. We live in the bush and I am not really a city type. Some suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Yosemite is a great choice. May I suggest when you leave go out to the east through Tuolumne Meadows on Tioga Road, over Tioga Pass to Lee Vining (hwy 120) and Mono Lake, then take Hwy 395 north to Lake Tahoe. Visit Fallen Leaf Lake while at the south end of Lake Tahoe.

I second the suggestion to exit Yosemite via Tioga Pass and Highway 395. All great country.

I also suggest another day trip: cross 395 (n/o Mono Lake) and continue northeast to Bodie, a famous ghost town.

If you get near Sacramento on highway I-5, we have space for your motorhome.

Thanks all for the replies. Sadly it is too little time but that's all I have. It looks like we will take our time getting to Oregon, stay around there then do a massive drive back to LA. It is unfortunate that getting a camper that we could leave in a destination other than the pickup spot proved too difficult.
