Annular Solar Eclipse

Just a PSA from an eclipse geek.

There is an Annular Solar Eclipse crossing the southwest on Sunday evening. Along a line from Crescent City, CA, thru Albuquerque the moon will pass directly in front of the sun. Pretty cool thing to watch. This is not a total eclipse because the moon is at it's furthest distance from earth so it appears too small to block the sun. The partial eclipse covers the western states. A true Total Eclipse is the most spectacular celestial event.

This all takes a couple hours from about 5 -7 pm pacific time in california, maximum eclipse occurs at sunset in ABQ.

Check it out through your ARC welding helmet but don't look directly at it even as it nears maximum, it will burn the crap out of your eyes.

Plenty of ideas for how to view it with mylar or pinhole projectors etc on the web.

google "nasa espenak eclipse" and it takes you right to eclipse data, , maps, charts, links to google maps with the path, etc.

crescent city, trinity center, chester and susanville airports are all pretty close to centerline of the eclipse.

Not sure where I will go, trying to meet ground bound friends at an airport so I don't have to drive.

Enjoy,

Pete
