Uh, float planes stall/spin just like wheel planes do, and it would appear that's what happened here.

Now, why is a different question.

I'm still learning, but the only 'float pendulum effect' I could come up with is that I feel they help slow roll turbulence (with the added mass of the floats on a lever arm). Not real scientific, mind you, but feels real to me, and does seem logical (to me).
I couldn't come up with anything else...... But didn't want to display my ignorance by asking what/how/when....

Like I say I "still have a lot to learn"..... So I do appreciate BCP and its contributors to the knowledge base here...

Oh, there IS a pendulum effect associated with the lower CG of a floatplane. But, my point was, that had nothing to do with this accident.
