Another trouble maker

1500' above the valley floor above I-15, but I sure can't make it out when I drive by and I KNOW it's there. No houses that can see it. No visible trail to it, certainly no ATV or other easy access. I've been flying by it for about 15 years, it may have been there longer and I didn't notice. I've seen it tattered, down, but sooner or later it's renewed and back up, it's in a windy pass area so continual replacement is part of the deal. If it's a political statement it's in a poorly chosen place, another head scratcher.

The real head scratcher is the red city type fire hydrant on a ridge top 12 miles east out of Malad, which I posted about some time ago (3 years??) but which is still unresolved as to who/what/why. I have flown by it several times since, and each time then circled over the nearest farmhouse (several miles away and over 1K lower, and OUT of the hydrant's line of sight) hoping to see someone so I could concoct a reason to land and ask about it, but no one was there at the time. Another icon that someone went to a lot of effort to erect (but the cast iron probably wears better then the flag) in an largely, almost totally, unseen area, even for most pilots. Image

Re: Another trouble maker

I once found a fire hydrant disconnected laying on the sidewalk. I promptly put it in my car and took it home. I thought it would be hilarious to pour a small concrete footer back in the woods on our farm and bolt it down hoping some person would stumble across it decades down the line and try to figure out why it was there.

But alas, that was college so I instead put it on a friends porch late one night. Blew my one shot.
