Antigravity Battery - too good to be true?

Anyone have any experience with this product? Would be a nice addition to the junk I haul when camping.

Just a note - there is a reason that the airlines do not carry shipments of Lithium batteries! If they end up in a thermal runaway or if they catch on fire, they burn ferociously. Just something to think about...

I've got one, I think it is pretty sweet. Never had to jump anything with it, but I've charged lots of Ipads, GoPros and cell phones in the "backcountry" with it, and that hardly drains the power of the unit it self as far as I can tell.

Re: Antigravity Battery - too good to be true?

I have a different branded unit, but very similar looking and spec-ed. I had it with me on a recent trip when my gill battery let me down. I jump started the 170 three times and charged the iPad on one charge. It spun the O-300 up as quick as the odyssey that replaced the gill does. :) You have to be careful if you crank for too long, the little jump leads do get hot. As for the lithium concerns, I brought this unit with me on an airliner to China and it falls well under the maximum allowable lithium DG limits.

17 lbs.?! What brand is that gen set? I thought the Yamaha was the lightest, at 27 lbs (a couple lbs. less then the littlest Honda) I could use something like that for pre-heating in the winter, and only need 200 watts capacity total, so have been looking for the smallest one possible.

I often cary an older version of this:

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Black-Decker-500-Amp-Jumpstart-With-Inflator/11016334

It's a little bigger and likely weighs a little more but it will jump start a baterry many times, pump up tires and charge phones etc. I've used every feature on it. I also just replaced the power source (a small sealed 12V battery) after ~6 years of use and packing it around with me. It's been nice to have.

Checked their website - not much info on the actual specs (voltage, amp hour capacity, etc.). One may assume that it is a 4 cell lithium ion battery pack with a DC to DC converter for the USB 5 volts. Doubtless there's also a BMS (battery management system) to prevent overcharge or discharge.

Bottom line, you can buy a lot of lithium battery for a lot less money. Also, LiFePO4 (lithium ferrous phosphate or LFP) battery technology is a lot more stable, and less prone to thermal runaway than the cheaper lithium ion. StarkPower sells LFP starter batteries as well as energy storage batteries (the difference is that starter batteries have typically less capacity but much higher max current capability - this due to construction, more cell spacing for cooling etc). Search on Amazon for StarkPower batteries - there are other good brands too.

If you don't want to cobble together your own, there's this one: http://www.amazon.com/StarkPower-JumpBo ... er+battery

Correction #1; 27 LBS not 17 LBS. Thanks.

Anti gravity batteries - They work. Witnessed a carbon cub started 4 times and could have done more. 3 hooked together was used for welding a tie rod on a jeep.

Mine is on order. Several guys on the Cub Crafters forum love them.

We used one to start a 4 wheeler a couple of times on a moose hunt, it cranked it over like it had a fresh battery installed. I now own one.

I am going to buy one of these for my main batt, then carry a micro start as a backup. Check out the weight. 12oz! http://shop.antigravitybatteries.com/an ... ries-sc-1/

Re: Antigravity Battery - too good to be true?

About the weight..

Here is an 800 watt affair made by " Earthquake" " that weighs only 21 pounds. I think I own a gas powered small portable post hole digger made by this company.

I also wonder if units could be converted over to propane without too much difficulty.

Re: Antigravity Battery - too good to be true?

I got the antigravity battery last week. Forgot it was in the car till I left the lights on while listening to the ball game. (Had the car parked in front of the hanger with the radio blasting) a few hours later, the radio stopped. Thought it was the broadcast but it was my 5 yr old car battery giving up.

Started towards my dad's hanger to get his battery charger when I remembered the new toy. Plugged the jumper cables in and the car fired right up. I later charged my ipad and smartphone. The antigravity still shows 3/4 charge on it. I am sold.

May seem gimmicky, but you might consider storing your lipo battery in a charging bag. Pretty cheap piece of mind IMO.

So Bumper -- did you buy the StarkPower JumpBox, and if so I assume you like it? I'm always in the market for off grid power options.

Re: Antigravity Battery - too good to be true?

Here is a pic I took of the specs. It's an Astro model 7775.
They say a full charge will last 3-6 months.

Re: Antigravity Battery - too good to be true?

Won't be an issue for me but doesn't look like these batteries do too well in the cold.
