Any Bush Flying in Florida?

I will be moving to Florida at the end of this month and was wondering if there is any kind of "bush flying" to be had there? I know there is a lot of float flying and that is something that intrigues me. Just wondering if there are fun areas to explore... I couldn't find any landing strips in the everglades.

I wouldn't call 3000' of primo kush grass "bush flying", but there's this fun RAF strip in the panhandle.

Well you wouldn't want to land in the everglades, epic mud. Most of the strips in Florida have been gentrified. Lots of great grass strips and a few crushed coral, but few you can land at that are remote. The ones that are, tend to be private. Floats can be fun there, but you have to mind your manners and there are restrictions. Jimmy Buffet found out the hard way with the Park Service. If you want to fly bush in Florida, get a helicopter.

I used to keep my 185 at a private strip south of Miami, Richard's Field. Wonderful grass strip with nice services in a lemon grove on the edge of the Everglades. The area was called Redlands, mostly farms and groves. It was exciting landing at times, South Florida gets substantial rainfall, it can rain an 1" in an hour there and not attract attention. I had my 185 equipped with larger tires, since I was Bush flying in Honduras and some other places down in CA at the time. I was landing after one of these minor showers and touched down in my usual spot. Well this 185 had Robertson STOL, so 300' to stop was not unusual. I tapped the brakes and nothing. I pulled back on the yoke to put a little more force on the rubber and braked harder, nada. The grass was as slick as ice. I just have slid for 1,200' before stopping. Got my interest.

Honestly, Florida has a lot of fields, mostly civilized. You can go fly around the islands. Best go with somebody that has before, so you learn the routine. It is actually fun to fly around the smaller islands in the Bahamas and out to the Turks. You will just need to learn the customs routine, carry a bit of paper, get your annual decal, a Radio Station License and a RadioTelephone Operators Permit and update your insurance for offshore. You might also like to get a modest raft and some life preservers, a flare or two and a pocket EPIRB. Your ELT will sink and be of no use. Someday, Cuba will be open for access. Most puzzling situation 90 miles off Key West. It is gorgeous. I have flown the length of the island a bunch of times, just not landed. The Keys kind of suck for flying. Key West and Marathon are pretty much it. I can land at Ocean Reef on Key Largo, but it is private. It is a real PIA to land there, you have to get a PPR fax a bunch of forms each and every time you want to go visit. The other airports are busy and crowded. Marathon got clobbered in the last storm.
