Well, it depends ....

If you just want HF radio in the 'plane for COMS back to your home-base, then it's no more dangerous than talking to tower on VHF. That's the purpose of my HF installation, since we have no VHF repeaters within 300-miles.

You know ..."honey, meet me at the dock with the next load, I'll be there is 45 minutes. Oh, and I'll need gas ...."

That sorta thing.

"Honey" is also a ham. And no, the loads are not commercial :)

That is not my personal experience working 75 meters on a number of occasions during cruise.. Maybe it depends on each pilot and each situation. Aviate, navigate, communicate (in that order) applies to ham radio, as well.
