Got 112 jumps with the last resulting in crushed foot, wiped out knee and 6 months of rehab. Still walk a little different to this day.
This was before the days of the "square" parachute being common.

So, now that I am showing my age, you can forgive me for not knowing what "swooping" is. How do you "swoop"?

Swooping = A whole new way to kill yourself jumping from a plane. Make a mistake with Round parachutes, Broken ankle, Tib / fib. Early square parachutes, Femur, back injuries. Current High performance elliptical Parachutes, fatality. A big problem in our sport now. Low altitude aerobatics under the parachute that when performed well look exciting but a small miscalculation can result in serious injuries or Death. I jump the small High Performance parachutes and enjoy all aspects of swooping but try an treat each attempt as a professional stunt to minimize the risk. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5OVatbPZ-RQ&NR=1

Watched the video. Got it now. I came away with 2 thoughts:

1 - Sure beats my old Para-Commander!
(which was the best in '69)

2 - Young man's sport. Young men don't think much about getting killed. "If it don't kill you it was fun".....right?

Thanks for the video.

I jumped outta planes for a while, Got my D. That became really boring and decided that I dont need an airplane to skydive. So I took my sabre 150 and BASE'd it off the Perrine Bridge in Idaho. Sold that rig quickly, bought a Ace 260 and started BASE jumping, way more fun for me. Got about 250 base since.
