Anybody Attending the AOPA Convention?

Anyone here going to be at the AOPA Convention? I'm planning to be there. If you're going to be there, get in touch, and maybe we can connect.

Re: Anybody Attending the AOPA Convention?

Hey Mike and all other BCP friends. I'll be headed down this Monday the 8th. Hope to maybe get some air time with aktahoe1. Arrive Bermuda dunes Tuesday. Maybe do some street riding with M7flyer up on the Angeles Crest Highway. Hope to do the Bacon Strip fly in Friday or Saturday night.

I should be around the convention Thur-Saturday. Lets do lunch or drinks or both.

I think glidergeek my be in for some socializing.

Who else??

Cheers...Rob cell#V 0three-VII 20-one9oneVII

Where you going to park it? Your invited to the Bacon Strip fly in Saturday night if you are so inclined. 45 min North of KUDD Bermuda Dunes
I'm doing the show Thursday, Friday AM, and Saturday as soon as I can get there. I won't be there all day, just till I get board. Lots of good hiking to be done.

Re: Anybody Attending the AOPA Convention?

Change of plans...their new format really put me off. I've been to a dozen or more of these, but Craiig Fullers idea of a good time is members shovel out tons of money, or eat at McDs...

Re: Anybody Attending the AOPA Convention?

MTV,
I have to agree as I see more and more of our once great clubs/organizations turning into nothing but a 'Rich boy's club" and they wonder why they are losing members. I even skipped AirVenture this year, first time I have not attended since the 80's. The disparity between the middle class and the rich is growing by the minute. They are totally out of touch with the type and kind of flying the average plane owner does. They have fogged over spectacles when it comes to anything that doesn't have a jet or turbine power plant with the ability to fly at high speed and in the stratosphere. Most of them have an arrogant air about them and it is a big turn off to the masses with their 'my plane is the only worthy plane that should be flying' attitude. That and they think everything is about them. How many of the articles written by these leaders of OUR organizations are about them and their exploits?
I have contemplated cancelling my AOPA membership many times but they are one of only a couple of organizations that fights for our continual right to fly. The good outweighs the bad by a very small margin. Better step down off my soapbox before I fall!!

I should be truckin into SoCal later that week or Sat along I-10. I don't care too much about the convention, but would like to meet up for lunch or dinner if times work out with everybody.

Hey Keith
There are many of us out here who don't have fancy machines and love the low and slow too...and some of us may be rich also....it's flying that has our common interest...have fun it's flying!

If y'all got transportation I got a very nice home in Palm Desert. I don't own it, just use it. I will be happy to do a bar b q Saturday night if there is interest. 25 minute drive from the convention center.

Re: Anybody Attending the AOPA Convention?

RR,
That came out all wrong....I didn't mean it for all rich flyers...just the ones with attitudes. I actually (yeah can you believe it!) have some friends that are what most people call quite rich. It is the individual that has to act better than everyone else that I was referring to.....I got totally off track with what I had wanted to post. One of those times I should have stayed off the computer.
I sincerely apologize if I offended anyone.

Hey Rob. If my trip goes well and I don't drag my feet too much. I should be rollin thru the desert sometime that Saturday. I'll keep in touch. I'm up for a BBQ at your desert oasis Sat night. I will need to find a place to park my rig, though. Any truck stops nearby?

Sounds good, Russ! I hadn't stopped at that Flying J in years. I always thought it was a PITA to get out of. If there's a spot open. I can park at the Little Sisters Truck Wash, also.

And these Monster Energy drink umbrella girls are killing me and some of the other crew members. I'll post some pictures when I get my laptop fired up the next few days. I'm sure Rob has seen the latest ones on my FB page.
