anybody near independence, OR ?

Me and the family are hoping to fly to Independence, OR on Sep 8, heading back home on the 9th. Going to the Rogue hop harvest festival. Any recommendations on how to get around there? Not sure if there is a courtesy car or anything? Also any hotel/B&B recommendations?

Re: anybody near independence, OR ?

I bought a house in Independence when my daughter went to college there. Great airport with a fly in community attached to it. Great restaurant on the airfield. I do not believe there is a courtesy car there. Sorry I am no help in the place to stay category.

What made you decide to go to Independence for the rogue hop Festival?

I am a pretty serious beer nerd and have always loved the Rogue brewery, and my daughters friend just moved near there a few months ago so would be a good chance for them to see each other. Rogue's farm looks like a cool place that is family friendly... and I might want to stay at their farmhouse in the future (sadly no vacancy the weekend we are planning). And that mogas isn't going to burn itself :)

This state is Beervana. You'll find plenty of breweries to visit no matter where you end up.

I had lunch at the Independence, Oregon airport about a month ago. Nice little lunch or breakfast stop and a darn cute airport fly-in community. :D

My plane is in a freinds barn near there right now. I usually go to Lebanon which is just a few miles away, they sell Mogas, are super nice, Larry and Dana run the FBO and will make you a bowl of soup if you arrive at lunch or open a can of Sprite™ for you if your passenger is queasy and last time I was there they mentioned they have a "pilot apartment" upstairs that is available but I never checked it out. I think they have a couple of cars too.

I "think" I can get over that pipe. If I have to.

Re: anybody near independence, OR ?

Just got back from our trip, have to recommend Nutsch Aviation @ Independence (7S5). They were really helpful and loaned us a nice car for the day. Rogue's hop farm is worth the visit if you want to taste some good beer and is a good family-fiendly venue. Got lucky with weather, Independence was mostly clear while nearby Salem was overcast this morning. Really pretty flight over the Cascades.

Wow. Look at that scar left over from the B&B Complex fire in the foreground. 10 years later. It's painful that so many parts of the West look like this now. With luck, my son will see mature forests where these giant burnouts are now. Sorry for the hijack.
