Anyone have an opinion of the Wilga
Technical and practical discussion about specific aircraft types such as Cessna 180, Maule M7, et al. Please read and search carefully before posting, as many popular topics have already been discussed.
I recently looked at a Wilga with the 260 HP radial engine that is for sale. Sure is an ugly-ass plane. So ugly I would love to have it. LOL
Anyone flown one? What are your impressions of it?

They have great visability, but it goes way slow, like 80-90 mph I think, and burns plenty of fuel out of that 260 hp engine.
A friend of mine has one, and it is for sale for $30,000. John

...remember, life is uncertain, eat desert first!
... and, those that pound their guns into plows, will plow for those who don't.
Used as a glider tug in Germany, what would you do with it?

Not sure what I would do with it....fly around in circles and make lots of noise. LOL Really not that interested in it due to the fuel burn. The previous owner told me the guy would be interested in a trade for my 172 is the only reason I looked at it. They sure are built tough. Only reason for wanting to sell the 172 is that I have a 1000' strip at my house and it is too short to operate the 172 in and out of. Besides, I hate that 30 mile drive to town to go flying in it.

Your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. Ps. 119:105
Big ole radial turns backwards so you need to stand on LEFT rudder on takeoff. very capable, very tough, very slow, very expensive, The prop is a fiberglass/wood composite and seems to get pranged on occasion.
Following link suspension is real good at rolling over things.
I know of one that chopped up a 170 pretty good!!!

Hi Keith, a little food for thought: Fun as it was, I was very happy to get rid of my previous airplane, a European make built in Canada. After the current type cert holder went bankrupt I had to get parts from France. Cost
alot and took
forever. I'll only own US makes from now on thanks to that debacle. That DO-27 looks mighty tasty though...

Both my wife and I owned one for 3 or 4 years and each flew it, had about 500-600 hours time in it, plus I did all the maintenance. If your really serious I'd be happy to talk with you about it via telephone. Send me an e-mail to
[email protected] on how to reach you.
Bottom line we really enjoyed the plane, never had any flying problems, although lots of people wipe them out (pretty common) They are definitely not for everyone although we both really enjoyed it
as a second airplane.
