Burning Man Fly-In Aug 28 to Sept 3

I am planning on arriving at the Black Rock International Spaceport sometime Monday the 28th. Skylane with a red squaretail. Anyone flying in really ought to subscribe to the Burning Man Aviators list.

Burning Man, comin' up real soon...
I'm really looking forward to it.
I'll bring some pics of our recent trip to the Alaskan panhandle, and western B.C. if you want to get inspired to visit that region, too.
See you all out on the "Black Rock Desert", playin on the playa.

Hey Berk:
My tentative plan is to head to Idaho This Friday morning for a bit of camping. Maybe Sunday afternoon visit Terri in Garden Valley and get hooked up to the machine. Spend Sunday night on the Playa and head home on Monday afternoon. I know that I will just be getting a day there but work still has a big priority.

Is your 172 the one with the huge nose wheel.

Hi, Tim;
Yes, there's an STC'd fork that's like a 206 nosewheel fork on this old 172. It slows me down a bit in cruise, but I rarely get a nick in the prop. I love it!

P.S. Say "hi" to Terri for me. I enjoyed her hospitality that she showed to me, John, & Pete last year. And wish her well.

I plan on arriving at Burning Man on Sat or Sun later this week. See you there, then.
Enjoy, Berk

124 Planes tied to the desert floor

Hi,
I just got back from 10 days at Burning Man. Lissa and her entire crew set up & operated the airport in fine style. There were 124 planes tied down to the desert floor on Saturday night, while "The Man" burned, amidst flame-throwers, fire spinners, and all sorts of lively types, numbering just short of 40,000 hardy souls of humanity from all over the world.
I staffed one of my unicom shifts, while wearing only a sparkly cape & loafers, during a funnel cloud arrival that brought the airport down to 0-0 in blowing dust, and 35+ knot winds. Incomming aircraft had to circle for 45 minutes over the dust clouds, then elected to just land off-airport, and taxi in through the slowly receding storm.
Nearly 90 folks went aloft with me on scenic rides, several for the first time in a small plane. Not to mention the many riides that other pilots had gifted. All & all it was an amazing gathering. Not for the faint, or fearful - this year's theme was "Hope & Fear".
I Hope to re-join the flyin' community of BRC International next year.
That's it for the news from the thin edge of our culture. Enjoy, Berk

Berk

Berk is my hero.

He gave so many rides, I could not believe it.

Lots of people with smiles walking away from that 172 of his.

Sorry I missed it this year guys, I just wasn't in the mood for the prep required. Post some pics if you get a chance.

This was the most awesome fire

Ever heard the sound of a jet engine starting up?

This fire made that sound, it got so big.

The guy must have a sail shop or something.

I need to take notes next year, as I forgot about half of the cool stuff people told me.
