Anyone in or near Corning, CA?

I'm going to be in Corning from Oct. 12 through Nov. 1 taking the light sport repairman's course at the Corning Airport. I'm flying there so I'll have the Savannah with me, and will have some time to fly on the weekends and such. Is there anyone in the area that wants to show me around? Or any cool grass strips or stuff like that I should check out in that area? etc. etc.

Thanks!

I will be in Torrance, CA on 27-OCT for two weeks. Since every time I try to fly to Corvallis the Wx keeps me in Newport ("The City of" [-X ), I thought if you want to fly down there you are welcome to stay at my pad.

Southern California is not that bad. Just fly under the west class"B" airspace to Catalina then to Torrance.

Just thought to offer. Since you always invite us over.

Grand reopening 15-OCT for KONP! Hotdogs and prizes! Should be fun!

Our "west circuit" is fairly close to where you'll be. It runs from Lake Berryessa and goes up to Gravelly Valley (1Q5). I'd be happy to show you around some of the spots one weekend. Maybe we could even do a Gravelly Valley camp out with some of the local BCPers. There are also a lot of really good gravel bars along certain portions of the Sacramento River. And if you're looking for breakfast Nancy's at the Willows airport is pretty good.

It's a little bit of a walk, about a mile or so, but if you land at Ranchaero you can walk into Chico State and there's lots of good eateries there too.

I'd be up for some weekend flying. I'm based not too far from Corning.

There is a great fly in at Sutter County O52 on 10/25 - Rag Wing Roundup. That is not too far from Corning. A bunch of cub pilots there that know the area very well, and a great group of guys! I will be flying up from KMOD. Hope to see you there. Ben

I took the course there in May. Have fun, and be prepared to be in high learning mode. They feed the info to you faster than you can imagine. It's a great little town and Brian and Carol are incredibly good at what they do. Hold your temper when working with the Rotax manuals; those Austrians really are out to get you.

Re: Anyone in or near Corning, CA?

There are a lot of public events
In addition to the High Sierra Flyin, 10th - 12th:

On the 18th there is the gathering of mustangs at the Nut Tree Airport which is always a big show.
and
On the 25th, in addition to the "Rag Wing" show at Sutter County, the 12th Annual Open House at the University Airport in Davis. Easy to make both of these events.
