The Good Lord does not deduct those days from our alloted quota, spent fishing, flying or with our Grandchildren.......
I was going to add Arctic Tern to that mix when it hit me.... I think it is actually an L-6. (military interstate cadet) one of the many "grasshoppers"... hence all the glass... the nose bowl is piper, so no telling what else is going on though...
Take Rob

Rob is right. FAA search on that N# turns up Interstate Cadet L-6. But what is up with those windows? Observer? It's like control tower glass.
Here's Kent Pietsch in his airshow plane, also an Interstate Cadet I believe:
Interesting that they appear to have more dihedral than Pipers or Aeroncas.

Half a century spent proving “it is better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.”
A heavily modified Cadet. I wonder if it still has a wooden spar? I'll bet it is a great flying airplane as modified.

They used to say there are no old bold pilots, hell, looka here........
Track My Spot
I could be mistaken, but no too likely, not with those paint colors and scheme.
Believe that the plane was once owned by a Von Lamb character who flew a lot out of the Reid Hillview (RHV) airport in San Jose Ca. as well as Alaska.
I almost bought it in place of my 170 until I took a closer look at all of the fuel line plumbing.
Von died earlier this year, and folks held a good sized memorial down at the South County airport near Morgan Hill, Ca.
There is still at least one Super Cub which he also custom built that is still for sale with a nearly identical paint scheme. I helped him with some of the final assy on the SC while we were both still in the old Vern Miller Hangar at RHV. The Super Cub is all set for floats. Do not know if the floats are still available.
Any interested parties can contact me if they have any interest in the SC, and I should be able to dig up the direct contact folks.

What is on the bottoms of the wings? .... looks like some kind of reflective panels and some kind of "gizmo" under them. ??
Thanks,

The red panels are part of the fuel tanks, or fuel tank covers.
The GIZMOS under the wings are part of the complex fuel system that I did not like. As I remember there was also some of it on the top.
The Red and Green came from left over paint from another project.
Maybe it was the paint on the Super Cub was left over from the Interstate.
Things get mor and more confuzzin these days.
Either way it is difficult to confuse those specific colors, and patterns.

It's an L-6, a modified Interstate Cadet used by the military in WWII. That's what's up with the side windows--designed for serious observation tasks.
The Arctic Tern was a derivitive of the Interstate Cadet, but with a lot of modifications.
This airplane obviously has been modified considerably as well.
The bulges in the bottoms of the wing roots are the low points in the fuel tanks. They are indeed the low points in the tanks. This feature is found on all Terns as well.

refer to anyone recognize this airplane
The airplane shown is an Interstate L-6 S1B1 with 150 hp Lycoming. I bought it from Vaughn Lamb about 6 mos. ago just before he passed away. It was completely restored when I got it. It had about 68 hrs. on majored 0-320 Lyc., new ceconite, new wood spars, plus many other changes.
I also have a PA 20/16 ( a pacer 20 with PA 16 sticks conversion), and also an Interstate Cadet S1 A with a 65 continental. Both are for sale as I'm keeping the L-6 and wife says she needs a car more than I need three airplanes.Any questions about the planes, call me at (208)785-6331.

I've seen that pacer on the ramp a couple times...it is quite a looker. My father in law is always telling me i need to go look at it and buy it. I just tell him if he'll buy it I'll fly it

Well Ellis, you have a nice plane there and one with a lot of history.
Looks like Wannabe was correct on the origin of the plane.
I'll keep a look out for the cub that is painted the same way.......
