Apple pencil

Anyone here have a report on using the Apple pencil with Foreflight on an iPad?

I have a new iPad Air and use Foreflight. I know I can use the annotation feature on Foreflight to mark up my screen but am wondering if there are any benefits to using the Apple pencil. The one thing I dislike about the Foreflight marking feature is that I can't selectively erase my marks.... I can clear all or nothing... (or maybe I just don't know how). I am wondering if the Apple pencil can be used to make notes on the Foreflight screen that can be selectively erased.

I do not draw or take notes in a class... which seems to be the primary markets the pencil is targeting.

Do I need an Apple pencil?

Re: Apple pencil

I have a pencil because I like to occasionally draw. And, yeah, it makes copying a clearance easier.

But not so much easier that I would ever consider getting one if I weren't interested in making art. I previously copied clearances with my fingertip for years with no complaints.

Re: Apple pencil

Thanks... that's what I was thinking. It looks like something that wouldn't benefit me very much.

I have an iPad, ForeFlight and the latest version of the Apple Pencil. With FF, it is all or nothing using the pencil. No selective, individual, erasing annotations.

Thanks! That's exactly what I was wondering. I'll spend the money on avgas instead......

Re: Apple pencil

I have an Ipad and pencil. The pencil is useful for marking up plates or the chart during my flight planning. I don't use the Apple pencil when I'm flying.

Re: Apple pencil

You can erase on the Scratchpad and on the plates. On Sectionals, you can undo previous marks in reverse chronological order or clear everything, but I don’t see how you could erase otherwise. Strange that the features would be different on different pages.

I have an Apple Pencil and like it a lot for clearances, ATIS, and marking up airport diagrams for complex taxi instructions or closed taxiways.

Re: Apple pencil

It sounds like for my purposes it wouldn't be much more useful than the cheap stylus I already have. Thanks for the responses!

Re: Apple pencil

Palm cancellation on the Apple Pencil, along with the ability to make much finer lines, makes it worth keeping IMHO. If I lost it I'd probably replace it, but I use it for things in addition to ForeFlight.
