Approach Development

Not backcountry related but I’m hoping someone on here has some experience/background that can help me.

Does anyone have any experience with the development of LNAV, LNAV/VNAV, and/or RNP approaches? I’m looking for some information on what the process is…start to finish…and what a realistic timeline is. And once developed, what steps does an airline have to take to be able to use that approach.

I’m doing some research for my home airport and figured that someone on here has probably been involved or has some general knowledge of the process. Thanks!

Nathan Kurth - you can find him on facebook - he works now for Boeing and before that at Jeppeson doing exactly this - developing approach procedures. I was just talking to him a week ago. I think he's nakedskipilot or something like that on here - but isn't active. Flies a Stinson 108-3. Lives in Boulder, CO.

One of the common hangups on getting approaches certificated is the delays before the FAA crew can fly it, and approve certification.

I'd get in touch with the appropriate office of the FAA, they'll have a checklist, and ultimately, they're the ones who will have to approve and certify it.....and flight test it periodically.

Nathan as mentioned above or Alec, MtnWest on here I think. Matt isn’t real active here anymore but he used to work at Jeppamd knows both of those guys. My wife works at Jepp, but mostly in chart drafting and revisions.

I still work Boeing / Jepp, used to do biz dev for that team that does the airspace and approach development.
