The Friends of the University Airport are holding the EIGHTH Annual OPEN HOUSE on Saturday, April 24th, 2010.
Main Purpose of the event is to let the community know there 1. is an airport, and 2. we are not crazy fly-into-building types.
Many administrators at the University plan to close the airport when the FAA grants expire in about 14 years. The University had originally planned to close the airport in the past, but the public outreach (Open House, Young Eagle, etc) and a FAA ruling that they could not repay the grants deferred the closure.
In addition to various aircraft, we have the CHP, Sheriff, Life-flight, experimental, etc. Workload permitting, the Army often fly's in some helicopters, which have always been a major hit with the kids of this liberal town. There are also a lot of old cars, hot rods, and motorcycles. We expect a repeat of a skydiving demonstration, one with a large American Flag, which is a great image.
EAA Chapter 52 sells food and sodas as a fund raiser, and conducts a sign-up for Young Eagles flights. The CAP provides guard duty.
This is mainly for the kids, and the community.
There is no airshow, but please fly-in. We stage the base/display aircraft 8 to 9 AM, the cars at 9-10 AM. The Public shows up around 10 AM and is gone by 2 PM, There is room on the edge to come and go as needed.
