April 24, 2010 Saturday OPEN HOUSE: Davis CA, KEDU

The Friends of the University Airport are holding the EIGHTH Annual OPEN HOUSE on Saturday, April 24th, 2010.
Main Purpose of the event is to let the community know there 1. is an airport, and 2. we are not crazy fly-into-building types.

Many administrators at the University plan to close the airport when the FAA grants expire in about 14 years. The University had originally planned to close the airport in the past, but the public outreach (Open House, Young Eagle, etc) and a FAA ruling that they could not repay the grants deferred the closure.

In addition to various aircraft, we have the CHP, Sheriff, Life-flight, experimental, etc. Workload permitting, the Army often fly's in some helicopters, which have always been a major hit with the kids of this liberal town. There are also a lot of old cars, hot rods, and motorcycles. We expect a repeat of a skydiving demonstration, one with a large American Flag, which is a great image.

EAA Chapter 52 sells food and sodas as a fund raiser, and conducts a sign-up for Young Eagles flights. The CAP provides guard duty.

This is mainly for the kids, and the community.
There is no airshow, but please fly-in. We stage the base/display aircraft 8 to 9 AM, the cars at 9-10 AM. The Public shows up around 10 AM and is gone by 2 PM, There is room on the edge to come and go as needed.

Bill,

Thanks for the heads-up. I visited your airport last year. My brother lives over in Dixon and we stopped by one evening just to poke around. I liked the place and wished I could base my plane in such a locale instead of the TSA infested No-fun zone I call home. We visited with a nice guy who was working on a PAC 750, my first introduction to that machine. He and others we ran into were very friendly. Davis is worth saving for sure.

Now you sure that American Flag demonstration isn't going to bring that hippy town to its knees??

62L, were you at Yolo County, also known as Davis Woodland Airport (KDWA)? - The PAC 750 is based over there. KEDU is the 3000' strip next to the university, about 5 nm south of KDWA. Both are great gas stops back into the Sacramento area - Cheaper than anything on this side of the Yolo Bypass unless you are further south, around Lodi.

Could be that we were at that other airport. It was near some farm fields and had little security, if any. We walked over to some shade hangars and admired some restored ercoupe's. The PAC 750 was out near where the parking area is but we didn't see it until we wandered back to the car. Ill have to ask my brother if he knows. He said "Davis has an airport" and away we went.

thx

It is good for the local folks to see the flag once and a while. =D>

The "PAC 750" is imported and assembled at KEDU. There are several based at Yolo County; Reno, Las Vegas, etc. One goes to the Alaska Airmen show each year, and one stayed. It is a purpose-built jump ship. The baby borther of the PAC 750 is the "Fletcher", and a CI Fighter version is based at KEDU. The nose of it is just seen in the lower part of the flag photo.

The shade structure is at KEDU, there was four Ercoupes based there recently.

Thanks for your support

Shoot, color me uninformed.......Guess I am never there long enough to see what is going on behind the hangar doors. C180Bill's right, the PAC 750 I was referring to is over at Yolo County; there is also one down at Byron at the jump center there. Had no idea they were assembled at KEDU, I've never seen one outside when stopping for gas.

Sorry 62L, you were probably at KEDU after all!
