Are 182 LR Tanks possible on the early models?

Have you modified your aircraft? STC? STOL Kit? Major rebuild from just a data plate?

Are 182 LR Tanks possible on the early models?

Hi guys,
Ive taken about a 9 year hiatus from this forum and flying all together. However, Im not in a place where I can afford to fly and get another airplane. Ive been looking at older 182s just because I like the light weight, manual flaps, prop clearance, etc. BUT the tanks are so small for cc.(Yes, I just pee in a container). Can I install long range tanks on the early models? Ive looked at Flint and other websites and it really isnt clear. Seems to me that they only offer it over 1966 or so. Any other ideas? I'd like to bring this plane dwn to Costa Rica and it would really make the flight a little easier to climb up, doing longer legs, and bypass some of the riff raff below. Thanks in advance!

I have a 1957 182A and a prior owner installed Monarch tanks (Hartwig). These hold 62 gals on the inboards and 36 gals on the outboards for a total of 98 gals. That should be sufficient range for you. Due to weight considerations, I only fill the inboards when on floats, although I can utilize the full 98 gals if on wheels.

I have a 1957 Cessna 180A with early Flint tanks. (With no pumps) Adds 23 gallons usable.
Handy but feel heavy roll when full.

Flint website shows the older 182s under "Legacy Cessnas" and on the STC list.

Currently Flint requires transfer pumps.

I have the same Monarch/Hartwig setup on my ‘56 C180 as Pipeliner. I love it.
