Arizona Backcountry Ideas

My wife and I are planning a trip to Prescott in a few weeks to visit her sister. I would like to make some side trips to some backcountry strips. Any suggestions on places to go, things to see, places to stay or meals to eat? We will not be camping, but a night or two at a dude ranch or some other out of the way location would be great. !!

I'd check out the Bar 10 ranch. Good food, great people and a short drive to the spectacular rim to see the lava falls. Horse rides and ATV tours as well. Rattlers are free.

They had recently paved most of the strip for better or worse...

I did this video last week. Redcreek is probably only 25 minutes from Prescott. Let me know when you're in the area, I have a lot more strips if you're interested, although I don't know any Dude Ranches that you can fly into. Payson Airport has a nice campground with hot showers and a good restaurant on the field.
Here's more info on Redcreek.

Nice video. I'm down that way at least once a year to visit family. My inlaws live 10 minutes from DVT and I go eat there and meet up with some other friends in the area with planes and go fly.

I live 1/2 mile south of the main entrance of DVT.

Then I drive past your place when I go there! It's undecided whether I'll be there for the holidays this year or not yet.

Very nice !!

Job well done, on the flying and the video.

Makes me wish I wasn't taking my wife. She loves to fly, but....

Here's another nice place for a day trip. If you don't mind walking a mile or two there are two cool little museums that have a good history for the area. There's also a nice little creek just down the hill from the strip, about a 10 minute walk.
