Float Wiki.

Float Wiki.

Having spent way, way too many hours scouring the intertubes for info on what's possible to put on my experimental Stinson 108, A float encyclopedia would be so helpful. How is it that this does not already exist?

Weights, exchange weights, links to documents, real capacity, dimensions, aircraft approvals, flying wire sizes, etc. A wiki that members could edit would probably be the best. That way you could reference sources so that the info would be as accurate as possible. Kenmore air has a lot of parts lists available but try to find the exchange weight of a particular float combo is an extreme eyeball drying exercise.

I really encourage people to be more thorough when they post information. Try to remember that there is someone out there looking for the info you are providing.

To start, a float equipment knowledge forum with sub forums for each model? Just spit balling here.

Wholeheartedly agree. That's why I put the call out here:

At some point I will start compiling it myself and intentionally add a bunch of wrong information in hopes that it will anger the ones with real knowledge and they'll get involved. 8)

Half a century spent proving “it is better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.”

There are literally dozens of airplanes that have been approved on floats. And a number of different floats/float models.

What you are asking for is a monumental task, and frankly, what are the odds of anyone getting any benefit from knowing what floats are approved on the Fairchild 24? (EDO 2425s, by the way). And, yes, I know, it can be done a bit at a time, but that still takes time.

But, you're right, this kind of information could be useful. So, you've obviously done some research on the topic.....how about YOU start this one? Give us the information you've been able to glean from the internet.
