ASES rating

I finally scraped together the cash and went to Talkeetna for the weekend to add ASES to my COM license. It was a blast! 5 hours in a Pacer was fun enough, but I also got to try out the 185 (with a Sportsman Cuff and VG's) on Aerocets, which was a kick in the pants!

If any of you haven't done it yet, I recommend Alaska Floats and Skis at Christiansen Lake run by Don Lee. They were friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. The lodge is awesome, and three nights lodging is included in the course price, but beware the $600 checkride fee. I wish I didn't have to go back to work tomorrow flying wheelplanes!

For everyone who has done it, why didn't you tell me it was this much fun??? :D

Because you're already broke and living in some shithole pilot house with a honey bucket. You start playing with floats you won't have any beer money. That's why.

Re: ASES rating

I was fortunate enough to skip the whole pilot-house phase and just had to deal with being broke for years...you're right though, now I have a float rating, and no beer money.
