Ask Captain Scott

Alright, alright. This is the opposite of backcountry flying, but I do enjoy this guy's delivery for some reason. This is the kind of stuff you do on a transatlantic flight when you're not looking out the windshield for treetops I guess. A different world up there between continents... Also interesting that he's double teaming it with a tablet device and a pen+clipboard.

Good ole...

....Southern Air B-747. Back in the day Southern Air Transport was owned by the CIA. But now it is just another run of the mill, non-scheduled airline....or so they say?? Either way....no pretty female flight attendants to keep you company: bring you dinner, rub your shoulders, sit on the jumpseat with legs crossed just so. :D Only a gray haired flight engineer in a T-shirt to bring the captain his coffee.

No wonder the poor guy is bored stiff. #-o

About the only difference between their methods and ours is I don't tear charts in half and the guy I fly with drinks about 4 cups an hour.

Excellent matter of fact delivery for sure. "Now here's one that'll bite you in the ass...." I always wondered what they find to entertain themselves up there.

Re: Ask Captain Scott

You guys are right about being bored stiff. I flew the 747 for Southern Air for a few years before I got on with a major. I got to see a lot of places that I'd rather not see again. While oceanic and trans-polar flying does require a bit of thought (particularly in the old equipment I operated at Southern 10 years ago...no GPS/FMS) it really isn't very exciting flying.

I'd rather watch a Cessna land on a sand bar.
