ass puckering wingsuit flying

WOW! This new video is the most extreme one yet! I can't embed it because it's not on youtube or vimeo yet.

What I don't understand is how they get those suits on over their watermellon-sized nuts...

Holy crap! I've seen the other vids but your right they have definitely stepped up the pucker factor. Wonder what kind of glide ratio they are getting. Talk about having to think ahead of the airplane. Man one misjudged crossing and she'd be all over. Where is that sport going to go next?

I predict that a flyer will go splat followed by the sport going splat.

Since they're video taping everything, when someone finally bites it, the video is bound to get published. That will immediately be followed by some do-gooders crying out for it to be outlawed, and then some politicians up for re-election will sieze the opportunity to SAVE THE CHILDREN! Oh, and then the lawyers will sue the bejeesus out of the manufacturers of the video camera for helping to entice them into killing themselves.

Looks to me like it's not going to be too long until someone lands in a wingsuit. There getting a pretty flat glide occasionally, and I bet someone slides a landing in on the grass one of these days. If I wasn't so damn old, I'd try it... ha ha

I thought about that, too! I finally decided that they are for the landing. After you pop the chute, if you fall down when you hit the ground, the wind might drag you along with your head hitting the rocks.

If I hadn't been wearing a helmet when I broke my hip I may not be here right now.

I thought there was already something in the works for someone to be able to flair a wingsuit and make a landing without ever opening the chute

Maybe you shoulda had a helmet on your hip  When those guys die after hitting the ground they will probably call it death by natural causes. Cause if you hit the ground doing 120 mph naturally you die. #-o

Yup, here is the story about the crazy guys at Go Fast http://www.gofastsports.com/zone/wingsuit.html
They are planning on a wing suit landing without a parachute.

Re: ass puckering wingsuit flying

I just hope 20/20 doesn't do a show on it, that's the kiss of death, at least it was for ultralights back in the 80's.

60 minutes did some time ago, well done, didn't overstate the obvious (it could be hazardous). As for the landing part, that for sure would require big ones, and they'd get in the way! You know it will happen though, the landing I mean.

More power to them, and I can think of more dangerous extreme sports quite easily. The guys who have the body suits with skateboard wheels all over, and then roll down mountain passes on operative highways?? Now that's nuts. At least this form of aviation (?) puts most if not all of the responsibility on the "pilot", if you die its probably because YOU screwed up, not someone else.

I wanna hear that their heart rate is 300+ and it's not just a walk in the park. They obviously think it's dangerous, otherwise, why the helmets?

People die in their bathtubs or playing frisbee while these guys survive hurtling past rocks in a nightgown. The universe is not in balance.

I've got quite a few wingsuit jumps..and one BASE jump...but I've not put the two together and I doubt I ever will now.

Re: ass puckering wingsuit flying

I think the helmet's just a place to mount the camera... 8) And, if you're gonna do THIS, you definitely want it on film.....

And, as a matter of information, one of the pioneers in this sport did go splat a year or so ago.

Re: ass puckering wingsuit flying

A good friend hit the Eiger on a wingsuit flight a few months ago.Lots of people are hitting things with wingsuits on.He got out of a heli and was flying down the mountain real close, did not clear the ridge. Serious bummer.People have been talking of landing without opening for a long time.Seems that recently there has been alot of folks getting real good at flying close to the rocks. Focus,,,,,,,,I have lost quit a few friends in the world of flying wether it be airplanes, wingsuits, canopies, paragliders, helicopters ect,,,,,,,,flying is just one of those things that takes the people it wants and spits out the rest to try again.USA and all its do good dipshits will hopefully not get too scared of people having a good time with their wingsuits and try to put an end to it.Not sure where I was headed with all this but I applaud all those folks who are ripping it up in the sky.Wingsuiting is the stuff flying dreams are made of.
