Astronaut Neil Armstrong has passed away at 82

The ultimate backcountry pilot, the ultimate long XC. Heroes like Armstrong and Aldrin and Collins certainly still exist but the romance and amazement of manned space missions has become much rarer.

RIP.

Nice, quiet, humble guy. I think somebody said last night now there are only 7 of the 12 who walked on the moon left with us. It would be a shame if we let that drop to 0.
How things changed just in the few years of the landings, I remember watching it as a young teen. Those grainy black and white pictures seemed normal. Just a few short years later the last landings were like watching a color movie at the local theater.

Indeed. Today the world seems to embrace pseudo-heroes like Kobe, Tiger, Lance, Bonds, etc., as those we should awe and inspire to be.

Shepard, Armstrong, Yeager, Crossfield, Glenn, Ride and all of the other pioneers of the aviation and space were the heroes of their day. This country would do well to remember them, as well as cultivate another generation of american heroes.
