Your favorite aerial application platform isn’t just for spraying Malathion on soybeans anymore…now they put out fires, too! Old news, I know. But i finally saw some in action the other night while hanging out in Ely, MN, where the US Forest Service has a seaplane base.

My friend Jeremy discovered 7 new fires on recon in the Beaver, then the Firebosses were dispatched. Lap after lap on Shagawa Lake. They were still going when we drove home at dusk. Turn up the sound.

I have a friend from Texas who used to spray corn and soybeans with an 802 but now is in Oregon flying an 802 on wheels for the summer. I think he said he was in northern Minnesota a year or two ago and even Pennsylvania for a short time.

Our last big fire year was 2017. Took this video from a friends dock on Seeley Lake. These guys did this every 6 minutes for many days fighting the fire in town.
