Aurora Forecast is big this week!

I get these links all the time from our guy in Cordova. He is generally spot on.

We have a huge aurora forecast this week. If your in a dark place you just may see it!

Here is his email:

Hi Folks,

I wanted to give you an update on the aurora forecast over the next few days. According to the Geophysical Institute, the coronal mass ejection that occurred this morning is going to have more of an impact on the Earth's magnetosphere than previously predicted. They have jumped the index from a rating of 3 to a rating of 5 or 6 with predictions of the aurora being visible down into Oregon, Washington and possibly even into California and the mid-west! The best times for viewing here in Cordova or Valdez is Wednesday evening after 12:00 midnight until about 4:00am in the morning....Provided the skies clear up!

Allen

We watch the Aurora forecast on the following web site from the Alaska Geophysical Institute: http://www.gi.alaska.edu/AuroraForecast

This week will indeed be a very big aurora period for the Northern sky. Unfortunately, with all of this daylight, you will need to wait until very late at night in order to get enough darkness to see the full effects of the show.
