AUX FUEL TANK

Hangar cleaning find. I bought this to put in the baggage area of a C172, but never did. I was supposed to fit 172, 182, and T41. No paper work. Any interest?

While aviation has made the world a smaller place, if you fall, it's still hard to miss!

Re: AUX FUEL TANK

Y4,

The 18 gallon aux tank is widest at the top since the bottom curves to match the Cessna belly. Top measurements are 31.25 inches wide, 24.25 inches long (front to rear), and 7.5 inches high, not counting the fill neck.

I had one in a 1974 Cessna 172 that worked well. They pump up to the right side wing tank. You were not supposed to fly on the pump flow only, although, I know I could in that plane, at least once.

I do not have the fill cap that goes in the airplane side (it was flush mount like some motor cycles etc have, and connects to the tank filler tube. Nor, do I have the electric fuel pump or fuel gauge, or any paper work.

I paid $600 for this tank, plus S&H. I’d like to get that $600 back, but I’ll spring for the shipping for the US. Before I bought this, if I remember right, a guy in PA had the kit with STC for around $2750.

This is a Javelin tanks -Option on 50's-60's 180-182's, It's listed as a SK Kit . Log book entry not requiring field approval. It's good for 18 gallons in the baggage compartment. When you drain down the right wing tank you turn on a fuel pump to replenishment the right while you fly along on the left. Hole on outside skin for fuel cap gives it away. Have a bud who fly's his 180 down and back for Baja 500-1000 races and uses it quite a bit. I had a Javelin and traded it for a Flint Tip tank system that caries 24 gallons. About 2 hours more fuel for 180/182's . I just wanted the weight closer to the center of gravity
if I'm tanking more fuel. With 5+ hours on my normal 60 gallons add 2 more for real pain.
