AV gas theft at Birchwood / PABV - Alaska Southcentral

Heads up / warning to all - there have been active gas thieves at PABV.
My airplane had gas stolen and the gas cap was incorrectly reattached recently. I didn't notice during my routine checks, until I actually pulled my wing covers. The thieves had undone several wing cover bungees to get to the gas caps, and then reattached them when they were done, so it was fairly unnoticeable during a quick drive-by look over.
I just talked to another airplane owner parked nearby who found his caps had been messed with recently. Same thing; they had to undo wing covers to get to the caps.
i'm posting this as a heads up and safety warning to the other owners, and I'll copy this post to some other sites. Think maybe it's time for the gates to be locked and set up a electronic pass like the shooting range and the parking at Merrill Field. I'd rather the state spend money on that, than a ramp surface reconstruction!
I'd also like to find the thieves and get them a 36 hour soak in the center of Knik Arm.

I knew a guy who'd gassed up his airplane then left it parked outside for a morning flight.
It flamed out and down he went, he was OK but the airplane took some damage.
Thieves had stolen gas from the airplane over night.
(or so he said anyway  )

AV gas is in high demand for high performance snowmobiles around here.

You'd think that someone that can afford $20,000 for a sled and aftermarket high performance parts would be able to afford to buy gas, but apparently not.

Is anyone tracking which airports this is happening at? It might help pilots know where it's a trend to be more aware. One of those cheap motion activated drive cams might be fun to stick in an inconspicuous place as well. If the bastards know they're being recorded (best if they know from an example being made) they may think twice.

If nobody is keeping tabs of this, I am happy to spin up a quick web page where pilots can submit what happened.

Seems to be anywhere a plane is tied down this year.

Just had an IPAD and electric heater stolen out of a company PC-12 at Merrill field. It was behind a locked fence with razor wire and millions of dollars worth of cameras. We also had all them tires slashed with not a notice. All planes behind locked gates. All that money spent on security huge waste.
