Ayone explored Nova Scotia?

I'm interested in checking out this whole region. Anyone know any strips charted or uncharted around there? I looked at a us vfr shaft but didn't really see any airports on the east coast of nova scotia. Ideally I would like to find some waves for riding.

I spent several months there 40 years ago  and had a great time, super friendly people and great seafood! No flying at the time, but I seem to remember a lot of real rugged country. I like the fact it is so off the charts, kind of like Inkom.

Re: Ayone explored Nova Scotia?

Hi There,

I am from Newfoundland orginally but spend lots of time in Nova Scotia, for both work and play. A great place to visit and to live. The people are friendly, the summer weather is nice, and the scenery is spectacular. Best flying weather is late July, August and the first two weeks of September. When you check the weather...be sure to CALL and TALK to Navcanada flight service people. The East Coast fog can get you if you don't pay attention. The FSS folks will keep you well informed of the weather.

If you are looking for places to fly into, you need to grab a "Moncton VFR Nav Chart" from Navcanada. There is not an abundance to places to land..but there are some very nice strips...grass and paved.....where you can land, camp or grab a hotel nearby. The aviation community there is small, but very friendly and will give you the "shirt off of their back" if you needed it. If you do end of planning a trip down that what...dont hestiate to let me know and I can offer specific suggestions and offer some "touristy" things to do.

You wont be dissapointed. Definately do it.

Cheers

I have a house on the west coast of Cape Breton in a little town called Judique, I'll be there the last 2 weeks of July and you can land there if you want :D

Plenty of farm fields and roads everywhere and the locals are the best. Port Hawkesbury has a nice airport. Margaree, a small srip. You can't beat the beauty of Cape Breton...great fiddle music too. The flight around the Cabot Trail is spectacular.

Thanks for all of the replies. Looks amazing. Will the Canada vfr chart have most of the grass strips? I'd love to check out the area on the west coast of cape Breton. Is your strip there private?

True that. Someone not far outside your town of Winnipeg gave me the tach cable out of his newly restored Cessna. Saint Andrews, I think it was. On the other hand, I remember the mortuary was right next to the field and had a big advertisement facing the ramp. Canuck humor??

BCT, sounds like you have some good connections, can you be anymore specific?

Also, what do folks think about connecting a swing through Nova Scotia with a side trip to Newfoundland?

Ington6:

My grass strip is not yet constructed. Here's a different view of my property and where I plan to put it:

http://webhosting.web.com/imagelib/site ... rget=_self

This will give me about 700'. The problem right now is there is some scrub and small spruce trees right in the middle. It is possible you could land on top of that cliff which you can see on the pic, part of that is not my property and I'd be careful, there are some giant anthills there.

You can see the area on google earth, put: "Hideaway Drive, Judique, Nova Scotia" in the google earth search. You will see an area of higher resolution in the upper left. Part of that is my land and part is not.
