Remember that Flash/Flex components run locally on your machine, so all requests for data URL's are initiated from your machine, not the server. If it's hanging, it could just be that shortfield.com is reacting slowly to the data request, or Google Maps itself is responding slowly or hung up.

What kind of connection are you on, GSP?

I'm working on the BBcode for this, so it might be buggy for a while today.

Edit: I'm done.

Example:
Code: Select all
[airport]3U2[/airport]

I was playing with your widget and couldn't find the CTAF on the Nav/Comm page....It maybe there, but I couldn't find it....This is an easy to use and useful piece of info you two are putting together for others to use....Hats off to YA

Chris/Zane, possible bug
It appears that the Navigation data transfer to the uploaded page on BCP but the Comm data does not.

Abe,
I'll be adding the CTAF and other airport information shortly. I will also be making several improvements over then next few weeks that I just didn't have time to get to for this initial version:
-better photo and video viewing with possible full screen options
-map markers for all states
-list of recently updated airstrip info
-search filters
-the ability to submit airstrip information directly into the widget
-etc...

I'm glad you like it. I've had fun putting it together. Thanks to Zane for making it easy to embed it into the BCP forum!

Sojorrn,
The widget doesn't show the exact same information that is visible on shortfield.com, but it will soon (and then some).

Sojorrn,
I just built the tool for folks to use....uploading a ton of useful information will be the real achievement, and it will be up to us all.

Thanks for posting the photo of Frazier Lake!

Hmmmm....I'm guessing it is on my end. I have "high" speed internet, but it is through a microwave antenna on my roof. The provider offers several variable speeds and mine isn't real fast. Off the top of my head I don't remember what it is. However, I will be on the road tomorrow and can try it at the hotel, which will be much faster.

As of right now, the initializing box doesn't even appear anymore. It's just empy white space. I'd dump my cache if I knew where it was and how. Mind giving me some quick instructions?

Thanks.

In Firefox, hold down SHIFT while clicking the Refresh/reload icon, or use Tools > Clear Private Data.

In Internet Explorer, follow these directions.

Well crap! I feel like the little brother on Christmas Story that is running behind everyone else in the alley screaming "Wait up you guys!".

I dumped the cache and the box did appear that said "loading" and then "initializing". The bar goes over about 80% and then hangs.

Thanks for the instructions Z. Any other ideas?

What version of the Flash player do you have installed? Right mouse click on the widget's loading graphic and select About Flash Player. Upgrade if you're running a version lower than 9. It's free and the instructions should be on the page it pulls up.
