This picture of the Ruby Mountains in northeastern Nevada was taken at 9am today. The wind is just howling as can be seen by all the blowing snow coming off the ridges and obscuring some of the peaks. The highest peak in this photo is Ruby Dome at 11,500 ft msl. It appears completely hidden by blowing snow. I'm guessing winds were 70+ mph at peak altitude when this was taken. The winds aloft forecasts at 12k for the US are looking impressive today!

I wouldn't be trying to slip through Secret Pass today...
Nasty day here in Lassen County, too.

Some of the guys at SoaringNV (Minden, NV) were hauling a glider out to the line to get launched in wave. Guess surface winds were pretty brutal (rotor touching down etc) . . . they chickened out
We do so love wind, but it's good to go fly only when *you* want to.

Well not really, I just pushed the button and uploaded the photo. The camera did all the hard work; Nikon D40 with an 18-200mm zoom lens.
